Canvas Tops
« on: January 10, 2010, 05:13:35 PM »
After this past fall/winter my boat got trashed by moisture, pine needles, leaves which turned to mold on the inside and got wedged into every crack on the boat.  3/4 hardtop with full canvas on back but does let water in when parked....  I was thinking of going with one of those advertised aluminum car ports for around $895 to cover the boat from the pine needles and other debris, but also a high quality full canvas might be ideal, anyone have a good top maker they could recommend...  Or horror stories why I should go with the car port style instead...

I think your gonna be served better by the aluminum roof thing and just clean the canvas you have now then replace the canvas when you go to sell the boat.  :twocents:

I think there are ones that have 3/4 sides on them too so you can block out the sun and some of the wind as well, also think about placing a small light in there (Not an LED light) or even a small heat lamp just to keep the air dry leave the windows closed and it should heat up in there just enough to keep the mildew from destroying everything. Just keeping it under cover will help alot !! A few bulbs and tiny addition to the electric bill will be much cheaper then new canvas.

Let me know when your going to work on cleaning the boat, If its on a weekend I'll come over and help you detail it !!

after trying a few different covers/tarps/whetever else i could think of that wouldn't last to cover my driftboat, i went to an upholstery shop i deal with a lot to get a quote on them making me a good canvas cover for my boat...well, that ain't happening. i'll stick with a couple tarps per year. you've got a hell of a lot more boat than i do, but geez having one made is dang expensive.

Hey Mike, I have had these guys do several different things for my boat, my canvas is called TopGun and does not allow water in.

The things that come to those who wait, may be the things left by those who got there first!

I had a guy north of Olympia recanvas my Trophy.  He did a nice job at a fair price.  I can't think of his name but could track it down if needed.

Mike, how about a garage? :chuckle:   My dads boat really would not dry out and stay dry with any cover on it, had to tuck it under a carport/roof plus the cover to get it to avoid mildew etc....

Huntnphool, that is a beautiful boat!
