Got a new toy. OOOOOOOOOHHHH
« on: January 12, 2010, 07:08:23 AM »
Just bought a Blue/Syn Tikka T3 lite in .243 for coyotes. Kind of a neat little rifle I love how liight it is. Bought two boxes of cheap ammo to run through it but now I have to figure out what weight of pills I want to start loading for yotes. Off to the range. WooHoo!! Havent decided on the scope, probably my 4.5X14 Burris. :whoo: :whoo: :whoo: :whoo: :whoo:

Gut,

Gotta let us know how it shoots.  I'm getting ready to get a new lightweight .243 and haven't made up my mind yet... the T3 is one that I'm considering.

Take a look at the Pentax Pioneer 4.5-14 (check Fox Optic).  From what I read, it is the same scope as the Burris (made in the same factory in the Philippines), but a whole lot cheaper.

I'll let you know. If the weather holds I'm gonna go play tomorrow. I already have the Burris that I'll take from my 220 swift for now. Haven't decided yet what I want to do. Thinking about buying another Bushnell 3200 Elite but not sure yet.

Also not to sure if I like the factory rings. They seem a bit cheesy, I may buy some Warnes.

My Tikka T3 Lite .243 is a tack driver. I recommend the Barnes Varmint grenade for hand loads.

powder                 c.o.l.      gr     fps           gr     fps
62 GR. BAR VG FB  Winchester  760  .243"  2.620"   43.5   3427   or   46.3  3631

Some people spend their entire life wondering if they made a difference. Marines don't have that problem.

I wish I wouldn't have seen this. I didn't want to use the varmint grenade because the B.C. is so bad on them I was going to look at B-Tips and V-max but now I'll have to look at the Barnes to. They sure work well in the 220 swift and .223 I just wanted something that flies a bit better since this rifle will be for late season long shots. How have the grenades been on the hides? I assume they arent real friendly.

I've heard those work good for coyotes but not sure about cats. I bought two boxes of 80 grn Winchesters since they were the cheapest on the shelf. I'll play with those till I figure out the load I want to go with.

Hey Gut,
Those rings look cheasy but they seem to work pretty well. My 25-06 is holding zero very well using the stockers.
Checkin' wind and makin' smoke.

I love my tikka T3 lite. Have it in .243 and 300 win. I left the stock rings too. Don't look like much, but they sure hold a group. 52 gr of H380 and 55 gr Nosler BT is nasty medicine!!!
First kills for both Tikkas this year

Since you're running a 22.5 inch barrel on that, I may suggest a 55gr Nosler since it has a higher BC than a 65 gr Vmax and run some fairly fast/med rifle powder like H4895, Varget, BL-C2, H380. I'd expect about 3750 to 3850 out of your gun. Speed kills.
