TAKE MY GUNS, I DON'T CARE ANYMORE
« on: January 14, 2010, 07:46:38 AM »
Go ahead and TAKE MY GUNS from me. I am fed up and tired.

How in the hell am I supposed to keep up with all this legislative crap when I am a simple Joe trying to get to work on time?

I barely have enough time to relax and surf the web for hunting/fishing stuff!

I DO NOT HAVE THE TIME to get involved, I just want to hit the river this weekend!

I don't even know WHO represents me legislatively or congressionaly. What's the damned difference?

I wouldn't even know HOW to contact anyone, even if I knew who they were...

Besides, I would sound like a moron, and not know what to say...

Sound familiar?

Guys, we are all taxed to the max right now. Work your butt off to just keep your job. I understand that you want to just put the head in the sand occasionally, just to ignore all this crap that our lawmakers are trying to cram down our throats.

Please, please, please take the time to log in to the link I provide below.

Take the time to fill in your address, simply click on Find My District. It is so easy!!!

Take the time to check out who is representing you.

Print their homepage/face/name/contact page. Post it on your wall or refrigerator.

Email them. Let them know who you are, and what you want them to do for you.

You are paying them a ton of money to listen to you....have you told them how to vote?

Guys, this link will put you in touch with the correct legislator you pay for.

You owe it to yourself, your family, your sport, your community and your country to do this.

Write to your state legislators about SB6396, how you oppose it, how it will do nothing but turn law abiding hunters like yourself into criminals. Say something now!

Write to your congressional representatives and tell them how you oppose healthcare reforms.Tell them to stop bankrupting this country. Say something now!

Some of us have not taken the time to do this. If this is you, I am pleading for you to give it one hour of your busy day. Take one hour, use the link, learn who it is that is screwing you over, write to them. Learn how to do this if you have not done it already.

Learn and share with your wife, your brother, your hunting buddy, your kids.

Please step up and do this.

Please give it one single hour of your precious day.

Is one hour worth it, or do you give up and want to simply let them have their way, bankrupt this country, outlaw the guns you already have...?

Please do it, I did.

Sent emails to all three....doubt it will ever get read, especially since the topic was Opposition to SB6396.

I would like to know where they think they get the right to have a warrantless search of our homes once a year?

Thanks Ice- It only took ten minutes and not the hour you said it would, here is what I sent-

Please vote no on Sb6396. As a hunter, I enjoy the recreational opprotunities this state has to offer. Many of the rifles, shotguns, and pistols in this bann are used by tax paying and law abiding citizens every day for recreation. Slowly stripping away the rights of honest citizens does not change criminals. I could go on but I am sure you can tell where my point is going. Thank you for your time. Matt Kyllonen

I got a reply today from my state Senator, she is a Dem and obviosly not interested in sharing her view or how she intends to vote....;

Dear Kevin:

Thank you for contacting in opposition of SB 6396, which would ban the sale of assault weapons.

This issue is the subject of a lot of conversation this session. It's helpful for me to know your views.

Thanks for contacting me. Please stay in touch.

Sincerely,

Karen Fraser
State Senator, 22nd District

Now if everyone on here would send their opinion about the bill.... :dunno:

I received a reply- very interesting

Matt,

Thank you for writing to me in opposition to Senate Bill 6396, a measure that would ban assault weapons.  I too oppose this bill and hope it meets the same fate as the 2005 assault weapons ban legislation, Senate Bill 5475, which died in committee.

There is an interesting twist to the reintroduction of this bill in 2010. It comes in the wake of the police officer killings as a remedy for these tragedies, but it does not address the firearms used in those murders. The four Lakewood police officers were killed with a revolver and a stolen 9mm pistol – the primary weapon was the six-shot revolver.

The rifle used to kill the Seattle police officer does not meet “assault weapon” criteria in SB 6396. Officer Brenton was killed by a type of rifle owned by thousands of law-abiding Washington hunters, competitors and recreational target shooters.

Chelan County Sheriff Mike Harum was appointed by the governor to a law enforcement panel looking into the recent police officer murders. Here is what he said about the man who killed the four Lakewood police officers:

“Maurice Clemmons violated many firearms laws before he murdered the officers, so it seems rather dubious to argue additional laws might have prevented this tragedy.”

Two bills have been introduced that really could help prevent these tragedies in the future:

Senate Bill 6203 – This measure would create a scoring system based on an offender’s misdemeanor domestic violence history when determining a felony domestic violence sentence. The goal is to keep chronic abusers in jail longer and allow their victims to start a new life. Deputy Mundell was shot while responding to a domestic violence call concerning a repeat offender.

Senate Joint Memorial 8218 – This measure is a constitutional amendment that would prohibit bail for offenses that may result in a mandatory life sentence upon conviction. The killer of the four Lakewood Police Officers would not have been able to bail out of jail had this provision been in place.

In my opinion, even holding a public hearing on Senate Bill 6396 is a waste of time. Legislators should be focused on solving the budget crisis with reforms – not taxes – and taking steps to help our business community retain and create new jobs.

Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with me.

Sincerely,

Senator Mark Schoesler

Here is what my senator Steve Hobbs said in reply to my email, 8)

Scott,

I am a strong proponent of our 2nd Amendment rights, and do not support any legislation of this kind. I fully support a person's right to bare arms.

Your comments are the kind I love to hear. Thank you so much for taking the time to contact my office, and please continue to do so should you have any questions or comments throughout session.

Best,

Just wrote to everyone in Oregon. Not a long, elaborate message, but I think I got my point across.

During the presidential campaign we kept hearing the slogan "change we can count on" over and over. Obama certainly talked a big game and made promises. One of the first things that comes to mind is transparency. We can see what is going on in the government, but that has been the exact opposite of what has been happening. We're not getting transparency, we're getting closed-door deals where we don't know what is going on. Many of them. We want to know what is going on. We, I, want him to hold himself to what he promised us.

Double standards or special deals for groups that supported him. I'm tired of double-standards. This new healthcare tax issue is making me upset and getting old fast. Why should a certain group of unions get tax deals while everyone else has to pay more for their "cadillac" health package deals? What happened to equality? The way it looks is that, hey if you vote for me, I'll cut you a special deal. If not, too bad.

Firearms: he said he didn't oppose law-abiding citizens from owning them and, etc, etc... I haven't seen him personally put anything out against gun ownership, but I'm constantly seeing more and more anti-gun proposals. We don't need more laws to take more guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens, we just need to enforce the laws we have.

And I touched on healthcare and want to continue on that briefly. I don't want a government mandated program! I want smaller government, not larger. I don't want to have a government which constantly says we need more and you kind of have a choice about it, but not really. The majority of the people don't want it.

It is time that government stated listening to its citizens and what they want instead of a few people at the top deciding, "Hey this sounds good, lets do it even though it isn't what the country wants. It only matters what I think they want or should have."

Stop spending. Stop spending more and more and more taxpayer money! This is a bad trend we're in and it must reverse. Not for us, but for the generations to come. We cannot continue on this path if we want the United States to succeed. Cut programs that don't work. Slash funding for programs that don't work or aren't wanted. Stop the earmarks on bills submitted, just do what needs to be done rather than pushing for personal agendas or repaying a favor that got you something in return in the government.

Lastly, illegal immigration. I'm for immigration, but am completely against illegal immigration. It needs to stop, now! Stop worrying about offending someone all the time and start doing what needs to be done in this nation. Kick them out if they're here illegally. Tighten border security. Stop giving them a free ride! No free schools, no free healthcare, no drivers license, no anything but a trip back home and a better way to keep them home. Would you let someone come into your home uninvited, eat your food, drive your car, raid your house for medicine? No. Why would you let them do that to your country then?

I haven't been too involved politically, but I'm starting to pay more attention. It is time for the government to stop doing what it wants and start doing what its citizens want. You work for us, we don't work for you. Let me say that again as some of those elected seem to have forgotten that. You work for us, we don't work for you! We're finally starting to watch, starting to pay attention. I can't speak for everyone, but those who aren't doing what I think is best aren't going to get my vote. I will vote for the other person, no matter what political party they're affiliated with. That is a guarantee. That is change you can count on! Not doing a good job of representing the people, you're fired. You don't work for Congress, you don't work for the President, you work for the people.

Patiently waiting and watching,

Thank you for your comments. I have heard an overwhelming objection to this bill from others in the 9th legislative district.

I oppose any gun regulation. I fully support your second amendment rights to bear and keep arms and rest assured, I will vote accordingly.

Got a response from one of mine.

Quote
Naithan,

Thank you for contacting me about Senate Bill 6396.  This bill would ban certain types of assault weapons.  Although, I do not sit on the policy committee where this proposed legislation is currently being considered, I do have concerns about this bill and do not support its passage.  I understand the issues around public safety, but as we face an historic budget crisis, the focus of this session should be on balancing the budget and not passing additional gun regulations.

Thank you again for taking the time to become educated about an issue that is important to you, and to contact me about it. We are all part of the legislative process, so I take every communication from residents of the 49th Legislative District into consideration.

I look forward to hearing from the folks here at home and welcome any future concerns you might have. Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts.

This is the response I have gotten, haven't heard from the other reps yet.

Dear Mr. Reiter,

Thank you for contacting me about SB 6396.  While I support measures to keep weapons out of the hands of criminals like those responsible for the heinous police killings last year, I do not feel that SB 6396 would further that goal.  I believe that my colleagues, in introducing this bill, have the best intentions at heart.  However, I do not agree with them that keeping guns away from responsible owners who have not been convicted of a crime is the best way to go about making our communities safer.  I took an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution as a state legislator, and that includes the Second Amendment.

Please know that if this bill does come up for a vote that I will not be a supporter.

Sincerely,

Phil Rockefeller

Got one response:

Dear Alec,

Thank you for taking the time to email me your concerns about SB 6396.  I understand that this is an important issue that warrants looking into.  Should this bill come to the floor for a vote, I will take your thoughts into account.

As you are no doubt aware, our nation and indeed our state are slowly recovering from the worst recession since the great depression. For this reason, writing a supplemental state budget that is balanced and sustainable is my top priority this legislative session.  As my colleagues and I sit down to write this budget, we do it with the palpable understanding that our decisions directly impact our neighbors, friends, family, and constituents at large. We do not take this charge lightly.

I do not know what revenue proposal will be sent to the voters for consideration or what cuts specifically we will be forced to make to programs we all care so deeply about. We will however keep your concerns in mind as we move forward with the budgeting process.

Thank you for conveying your thoughts to me and please keep me apprised with further questions or suggestions you may have.

Yours in service,

Kelli Linville

Senator Merkley,

I do appreciate your response, but am confused. Actually, I hope I am just confused and you don't actually disagree with everything I wrote. It is my hope that you just used "while we may disagree" as a blanket to address everything without getting into a timely and drawn out reply - also known as the easy way out.

Please, if you find the time, to confirm or deny the following.

You stated you disagree with my views. So, in short you:

Don't believe in government transparency and deem it appropriate to hide, what should be public, information from the taxpayers and citizens of this great nation.

Believe double-standards are okay and that certain groups should be entitled to benefits that other groups (union vs. non-union in my example) are not entitled to or must pay different amounts in taxes.

Do believe there should be more anti-firearm laws rather than enforce the current laws already in place.

Do believe there should be a mandatory, national healthcare system in place though the majority of citizens in this country are against it.

Is okay to continue to spend as the current administration is doing and do not think it is out of control.

Do not feel there should be stricter tolerances on illegal immigration and that it is okay for illegal (aka criminal) immigrants should be able to remain here without deportation, while receiving taxpayer assistance though many (or most) are not paying taxes.

And finally, which would be scary if true, when you said you disagree with me, you essentially stated that you do not believe you work for the people, the citizens, the taxpayers, the voters. Do you really hold that to be true?

Your statement of "while we may disagree" was vague, to say the least. If that is true, however, then everything above must also be true as well.

Once again, I appreciate the response, but your response brings up more questions and concerns. I hope you can find the time to address them, without going into huge detail, but while answering my concerns, mind you.

Massachusetts was quite a statement and I hope all in public service (serving the people, not interest groups, not anyone else) took notice and did not take it lightly.

Respectfully,

"Dear Anthony,

Thank you for contacting me to share your views. While we may disagree, please know that I respect your opinion.

As a United States Senator, I represent all Oregonians, including those with whom I disagree.  Sometimes I cast votes that are unpopular with certain constituents, but this does not mean I take your concerns lightly.  It is the nature of democracy that the people of Oregon, and the nation, will be divided on some issues.

However, I believe it is with those whom we disagree we must pay particular attention. It is important to have our assumptions challenged.  Not everyone will always agree with me, but Oregonians should expect me to listen to their concerns and to be honest and straightforward with my answers.

Please stay in touch.

All my best,
Jeff Merkley
United States Senate"

Patiently waiting and watching,

spent some time reading all of these post and from what i see they are all trying to redirect your attetion at the budget, not the gun issue you all spoke of.  :dunno: waiting for the purposal to be resubmitted with more underlying promises to different states and that will make all the legislators deside that the benifits out weight the cost. (i.e. take all the guns, but give a .1 tax decrease for each gun taken). which is how we have had so many horrible laws passed in the past. Just add in extra stuff the different legestators have been working for and they can get there way at our expense. THAT is my  :twocents:
