Best Blacktail bait not including apples

At my Grandpa's in Central Valley we never saw a tulip.... Just all the leaves they eat down to dirt... Most the roses they could reach never bloomed either.... And two 5# mineral licks were gone in about 2 or 3 months.... They like the acorns too... Barley touch the apples... Sometimes they will eat the Japanese Pears... Never seen a fig with a bite out of it by anything but ants.... Don't blame em either.... Yuck!!

I too am waiting for this answer, but I think Joe's (in the mall) has them......

Sorry, sorry, sorry,,, Yes Joe's Outdoor Sports Shop in the Chehalis Mall carries them but I do not know about the farm store.
I noticed that if I start them off on apples and the apple candy block they will find it fast and keep coming back but if I just put out the candy block alone, they seem to take a bit to get to it and don't seem as interested   weird!
They also seem to like Deer Chow!

I guess that my deer are spoiled or some thing because I have tried everything mentioned here including deer chow and they just walk by it or eat the apples and leave the rest.  Under one tree there is a pile of cob, deer how and misc other stuff that has gone to mush because only the blue jays will eat it.  The other day I put a fresh pan of deer chow and cob mixed just to give it another try and I sat and watched 4 deer come up and lick the apple mineral block for a couple of seconds, give the grain a quick sniff and then move on.  I don't know what the deal is?

Deer are finicky and they are individuals.  What works for some deer in some areas won't work for deer in other areas.  Apples are the only thing I've found that will stop a buck on a trail, but only wild/organic apples.  They won't touch the waxed store-bought apples in my experience.

i bought a deer block apple thing frome dels farm and feed and dont think the deer ever were interested in it maybe i will try some apples around it first

Our deer grab the store bought apples while they are still rolling from our hands......  They'll even eat the apple cores after we are done with them, spit and all.  They eat all of the stuff we throw over the fence, except celery, onions and carrots.   

I think a lot of it depends on whether or not there is a good natural food source for them.  We have very little good winter forage and have nine deer every night looking at the house for their handout.

I do use apples to get the deer into the pellets each year until  they realize it is yummy.

Deer really hit stuff for us when mixed with peanut butter. Melt it out in the sun when it's hot or in the microwave when it's not. Dump it over other bait in a bucket and stir it up. Look for old, outdated tubs of peanut butter at a place like Grocery Outlet.

try onions. I dunno why, they(deer and elk) ate the onions first, out of a pile of both
