Hunting on Hartstine Island???
«

I know that Hartstine Island is classified as a firearms restricted area but a friend said I should check it out. . .I looked on the Washington DFW "GoHunting" maps and it appears that there are 4 state owned lands that should be open for public access hunting there. . .
. . .can anyone verify that???

I do not know about any state land but i do know that the ferry is prively owned and must have permission from a resident n the island to get on.
Atleast that how it was when i had to go ver for work
Most people on the island think the deer are pets and feed them regularly. I do believe you can hunt the shore line from your own personal boat, but do not quote me on it. Some one else may know the propert boundrys on tide lands.

Well. . .my buddy said the last time he was over there he saw 5 bobcats. . .so if the people think of the deer as pets it might not be too hard to get permission to hunt the bobcats. . .

Hartstine Island or Anderson Island? There is a bridge to get to Hartstine Island. I believe you need to take a ferry to Anderson Island. As far as Hartstine goes. I know there is a bunch of private property and some Manke land. I'm not sure if there is any state land. The few time's I've hunted it, it was Manke land. Pretty thick stuff. And we didn't see much. I've heard they have a ton of deer out there but they stay to the private property. good luck

Blsum hit it on the head.
We used to hunt it a lot in the 80's. Too much private land and at one point Manke was going to close a lot of it to hunting.
As for state land there is a .2 x .2 mile piece on the North end and another piece that is twice that size on the south end.
From where you are you might be better off going North and West. Definitely less competition.

I'm definitely going to be trying the Pope land across the Hood Canal bridge this next weekend. . .
. . .I was just asking because my friend said he had seen a lot of Bob's there. . .
Is Manke land like Pope land?
