Big Elk Sheds Revised

Well I went to the Sportsmans show yesterday and took in the big Elk sheds to see just how close we were on our scoring. Well lets say there's a reason we are not official scorers
originally I thought Bone nailed it based on our score at 349 1/8 but the official guys put it at 358 1/8 with a 40" spread but based on what people are saying a big bull like that would have a spread closer to 45 or 48" which looks more natural when I lay it out. So we could be lookin at a bull closer to 366 on the hoof! not bad for small thirds either.
Sorry Bone it looks like the official crown goes to
Buckshotbill
Oh ya and since they score them for you they are now entered in the Big game book it will be interesting to see where they rank ... I'm sure there allot bigger ones in there.

So what did the official score guy do differently than you to come up with another 20" of bone. Very nice sheds by the way.

When I compared the sheets we screwed up on the main beams. On mains we must have let the wire slip cause they had them 3 & 4+ inches longer than we did. And it looks like we were shorting the point where they intersect the main beam on some of the points we started too high. And I don't have enough experience with these to tell you if their new scoring system had anything to do with it either. But they are advertising that they have a new way that is more accurate and even if you Had a head in previous year contests you are welcome to bring them back in to have them rescored. well I guess it's better than saying they are bigger and then finding out that you have to tell everybody they are smaller than you measrued. the pics on this are deceiving you would have to see it in person it is one of those that I can actually say is larger in real life. As far as what it would have really scored we won't know it's all speculation and they only give you 40" on the spread.

Sorry Jakelope it looks as if I was in a hurry and transposed the numbers but put it this way you were just about as close as bone but buckshotbill guessed 357 so he takes it! Sorry again I was trying to do a couple of things at once including work earlier and you know us guys aren't made to multitask we just don't have the hips for it!
At least I caught it with Ironheads help.
I modified the original post up top!

I'd still like to hear about this new way of measureing things to make them bigger. Was this official for the book or just the Puyallupboys having fun? I was about to load up and head over with the NM bull if it could make my score 20 inches bigger. No offense Lance.

Reguardless, that is a sweet set of sheds. Have you thought about maybe a euro with one of the fake skulls?

Ironhead,
I have thought about that, I also have the cape from the bull I shot this year and I thought of putting that on it and putting my bull on a plaque. I have a friend (the elk E side raffle winner) that has a cape from his Colorado bull he said I could have if I wanted to mount both of them!
So I have some options but in the very least I will put these sheds on a Euro and display them, they are currently in the garage on a pile of boxes and deserve better!

Thats where half my mounts are compliments of my growly wife. I'm about to inform her that I would rather cuddle with a large elk shed than her.

Bone, The Head and horns competition folks are from the NW big game records book and are a separate independent records keeping organization. They keep game records for Washington. Oregon Idaho & Montana. They advertise however that most of their measurer's are Official Boone & Crockett or Pope & Young certified measurer's and work closely with both clubs. Having said that your entry gets published in each States book for big game animals and it sounds like you would still have to have it scored for the perspective club you want it entered in. When you have a entry that qualifies they give you a sheet that explains this and that's the way it sounds to me.
