Washington doesn't have a "governors" tag, maybe they are simply changing the name of the "auction" tag.

The way I had it explained to me, is that the Governor of the state "gets" an unlimited tag for himself or herself, but the tag is transferrable, so Governors, instead of using the tag themselves, allow the Game Dept to put the tag up for auction to raise funds for wildlife in the state.
I don't know if that is how it actually works, or if that is just the "spirit" of the thing, but that is how it was explained to me...

...now, if it actually works like that, and I ever am elected Governor....well, let's just say there won't be a Governor's Tag available at the auction that year... :chuckle: :chuckle:

I would like to know why our game department lets some of our so called governors tag go out of state to be actioned off. IE eastern WA mule deer is actioned in Utah, Western WA Black tail is Actioned in Reno. Oh wait I just figured it out our game dept get to travel and watch our tags be actioned off. Nice excuse to travel...   :bash:

The bad thing about them being sold out of state is that, the state/function gets some of the commison made off of the sale.  A lot of the high dollar tags are sold by phone bid anyway so it doesn't matter where they are sold at.  I think they should all be sold in-state.

how is this legal. Correct me if I am wrong but would this not be the same as someone taking game and using anther's tag. Same thing as me killing and putting my wife's tag on it or if you get the gov tag and you fill it your done for that species for the season?

WHen you bid on it and win it, they put your name on it.  WDFW makes the rules, so it's not illegal...

The intent of this tag isn't to offer opportunity as much as it is a way to generate income.  I personally think it's a pretty inexpensive way to bring in some significant funds.  I'm also ok with it going out of state, why not make sure we get the maximum payout, either way the critter ends up dead.  Now the sticky point is how well does the game department manage those funds?

For us average Joe's we always have the opportunity with the raffle tags, although the odds are slim.
