Wolf Match Target would be my first choice for good, accurate, yet still affordable. For cheap plinkers, look at Minimags or Winchester Super X.

Bulk stuff is fine for tin cans and clay pigeons, but if you run it through a Chrony you'll see in a hurry that there is a LOT of deviation in velocity from shot to shot. If you want accuracy, especially at 50yds+ you need consistency.
I left it better than I found it...did you?

I took my new S&W M&P15-22 to the range the other day with a 550 bulk pack of Federals bought at Wally World.  I was happy with the results, they fed well, and I placed 150 or so rounds in a 6 inch circle at 50 yards.  Then I switched to CCI mini mags.  I was amazed with the results.  100 rounds inside a 3 inch circle, with the majority of those inside a 2 inch circle.  For some, that isn't real accuracy, but with this type of rifle, I was pleased.
Nothing witty here.... move along.

Eley, Lapua, target ammo is about $7-12.00 a box for 50. Go to a precision match sometime. 25 targets on a sheet plus a sighter. the 10 ring is 1/4 inch with a 1/8 inch X. I have seen many scores of 247 thru 249 with 10 X's. a match 22 with match ammo is capable of 1/4 inch groups at 50 yards/meters easily. "dime" size groups at 50 will not even qualify.
A match 22 rifle generally will not chamber non-match ammo. the difference between match ammo and standard is amazing.

"Aguila (hecho en Mexico) makes some decent low-velocity target ammo"
I Have shot their sub sonic shorts  and their 90 gain sub sonic... They claim that at 100yd the 90grain penetrates 12in of gelatin.... They won't work in semi auto's and even in a long barrel bolt action you should clean after every couple of shots... I have shot them through my savage over under 22Lr 20 GA and there is usually enought residue left over to block light after a couple of shots... Very quite... One of those in the pipe and #4 buck shot for yotes... Haven't got one with that combo yet tho.  :twocents:
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.
