To qualify as measurable, any projection has to meet two requirements: 1) It must be at least one inch long from the tip to its junction with any other antler structure; and 2) at some location along its length (but not within one inch of the tip), the point must be longer than it is wide. So the initial step in measuring whitetail antlers is to establish "baselines" for all possible points and to "qualify" suspect points.
Determine point bases by draping the
quarter-inch tape over the point at its junction with the other antler structure and marking the baseline so that it coincides with the edges of the host beam or point. I think I am getting it now

I might get a few more eighths out of it.
