maximum point blank range

anyone site there guns in this way? I've been thinking that i will sight my rifles in accordingly? any thoughts?

Yes, I do and I have had good luck with it.  The only time I have had trouble is when shooting at a deer size animal thats right at the apex of the bullet path, generally right around 200 yards.  Have killed a couple where I hit them high and  broke their back.  Remember if using the 8" circle as a guideline the bullet is around 4 to 4.1" high at 200 yards, if your holding middle of the deer it will result in a high hit.

I was thinking of useing a 6" circle. how does one calculate the distances? or do you just shoot a whole bunch and figure it out?

I do.  It takes all the guess work out of shooting; the target is either in range or out.  If in, shoot dead on, if out, get closer.  I do MPB of 3” for modern rifles 4” for my ML. 

Ballistics SW will help determine the apex, then just check that at the range.
