Help me understand washingtons Archery rules and regs.
« on: January 28, 2010, 02:29:53 PM »
Hi ya'll I'm new to this forum and from Utah, looking to relocate to Washington.   Can you help walk me through your Bow hunting Rules?

I saw a thread saying wac'em's are Illegal.  Wth?  I though Utah had some weird rules.  Are Expandable broad heads legal?   Are they're any Let off regs?   Hand held release regs?

Thanks for any and all replies.

Thanks Jackelope.

Another Question.   Are there any over the counter elk and deer tags?   Or are they all by the Draw system.

I saw you can get 3 turkey tags.   Do they have any spring hunting tags?

there's over the counter everything tags.
no branch antlered bull elk in most of eastern washington OTC.

turkeys are mostly all spring season. i think 3 tags but only 2 can be eastern washington, then there's an extra fall tag? i might be wrong here.

Looks like Archers get a good time to hunt them.  Till the 20th or Sept?  Is that correct?    Down here they would be rutting pretty hard then.   How is the rutt up there?

Expandable BH from what I can gather as there is nothing in the regs stating otherwise can be used for turkey. I myself shoot and love the gobbler guillotine for turkey. The only tags that cannot be purchased OTC is for sheep, goat & moose.

OTC everywhere (almost) in the state.  East side is spike only unless a special permit is drawn.  Different rules for the west side.

Good luck fixed blade! I've lived here all my life and just when I think I have crap figured out I figure out that I'm wrong!  :chuckle: Seriously though download a set of the regs and read them front to back and research the area you want to hunt and then read the regs again! Keep asking the questions but double check all the answers.

To add to JBar

Then go to the WDFW web site and check for any reg changes that have been made since the reg book went to press. I know last year tag prices went up after the reg book was in stores.

Scott

I keep a regs book in the truck, my pack, the bathroom next to the thrown, and even one by my dead boy chair (recliner). If you are not heading this way real soon let me know and I can mail a book to you to thumb through when not on the web.

Contrary to alot of our complaints FB, this state is actually pretty nice with the exception of the state government. Let us know what we can do to help your transition! Also a law degree would help with the regulations interpretation. :chuckle:
