Fishing Two Rods

Several months ago I read that WDFW was considering allowing the use of multipul rods, has anyone heard if they are still debating this? I heard it was going to be an extra charge when purchasing your licese but have not heard what they concluded.

I believe that is supposed to start this year and it will be an additional $27 for a second pole tag.  Just another way to con folks out of more money.

I understand its another source for increased revenue but this is one fee I will be glad to pay if it means I can fish for sturgeon and salmon with an additional rod.

It is fair game - I bought my license and it was an open option that could be selected and paid for accordingly
It is a revenue source, but also helpful for the fisherman.

This will be really cool if they follow through with it but this doesnt mean you get a second limit does it? just get to run different baits. still better than one biat in the water

It is only for fishing still waters like lakes, not rivers, streams or saltwater.

It was funny when fishing up at River Inlet, you would see guys trolling around in these little 10' boats, one guy in the boat and three rods out each side

Two-Pole Fishing Opportunity

Effective Aug. 15, the two-pole endorsement option will apply to the majority of the 8,000 fishing lakes, ponds and reservoirs in Washington state.

Revenue generated from the new fees will go toward hatchery fish production. (or the general fund)

What are the specifics?

The total cost for the two-pole endorsement is $24.50 ($6.50 for seniors) which includes a surcharge, and transaction and dealer fees.
Anglers may buy an endorsement for a second fishing pole at an authorized license dealer or online at fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov.  
All fishing rules and regulations still apply. See the Fishing in Washington pamphlet.
Anglers with a valid two-pole endorsement may use up to three hooks on each line.

Exclusions

The two-pole endorsement is allowed on most lakes, ponds and reservoirs. Approximately 145 lakes and ponds are excluded from the two-pole option based on conservation and fishery management goals.

Criteria for excluded lakes, ponds and reservoirs:

Lakes containing ESA-listed species, determined on a case-by-case basis
Lakes connected to anadromous waters during fisheries for anadromous fish, i.e. salmon
Lakes managed for natural trout production
Juvenile-only lakes
Fly-fishing only waters
Lakes with selective gear rules and a reduced daily limit for trout
The two pole endorsement is not valid on the Columbia or Snake rivers mainstem, except Lake Roosevelt and Rufus Woods Reservoir.

In general, two-pole fishing is not allowed in saltwater, or in rivers, streams and beaver ponds. However, WDFW is evaluating areas and times when surplus fish may be available for harvest and the two-pole option could be allowed.

Its not about the money, really, the WDFW promises it would never change the rules just to generate more income for the State.  This is about providing more opportunity for sportsmen and women of Washington.

I heard a rumor that once the wolves and natives kill all of the deer and elk, they are going to sell second deer and elk tags over the counter to increase hunting opportunities.  Forget the fact that there won't be any deer or elk, just remember, its not about the money.

Yep you can buy them right now but unless yer fishing a lake for trout they won't do you any good. We can't use it for fishing gators or springers.
