About the child that was not grouping.  Make sure he does not need glasses.  The first year my daughter hunted she could not see a deer through the scope, said it was blurry.  We had her eyes checked and she needed glasses.  She is near sighted in one eye and far in the other.  Most of the time she does not wear them but when she shots she has to have them.  She is the only one that can sight in her rifle too.  She sees through the scope different than we do.  This might not be your problem but it is another option.  Good luck!

my middle son was jerking the trigger. He couldn't grasp what was wrong until I failed to put a live round into the chamber(on purpose of course).  When he jerked the trigger he knew right away what I was talking about.
