« on: March 03, 2010, 09:55:42 PM »
i have a bunch of elk points  and still wont draw the wenaha   for awhile.thats ok  because i want  to learn it a bunch more. anyway  i plan on rifle deer hunting there this year, just  as a reason to learn the area  for when i do draw a elk tag.  any thoughts, tips, smart ass remarks,  pointers would be appreciated. thanks

Father-in-law has been packing in for 30+ years. I have gone the last two years with him. Number One tip I can give is to be in shape. Man those mountains will kick your butt if your not prepared. Beautiful area. Lots of people unless you get deep in the woods.

Good luck!

i don't know.... the eastern half of the unit is little different than the western half.

hunting in the wenaha... expect to get totally worn out and see very few deer. there are a few around but overall success is very very low.

Toughest hunt I ever went on physically.  Didn't see a single deer.  they're in there, but very few and far between.  Best advice I have heard is that you have to find them during the summer, and it will take several trips to do so.
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

sounds like you shouldnt waste your deer season scouting that area. Deer hunt where theres plenty of deer and scout your elk area on a different trip.
