What's not to like about a .223???  They are cheap to shoot.  Ammo can be found just about anywhere.  As long as you stay within the boundaries of the twist rate there is a variety of bullets and powders that work well and they are about the easiest, least finicky cal. to load for you will ever find.

I think if you take ALL things into consideration the .223 is pretty close to the perfect yote round you will find.

Have you shot it yet? How's the trigger? I have heard they are really bad. I am getting a Savage and had considered the Stevens since they are all on sale in Texas right now. But then when I figured in the cost of a new trigger and stock it was more than the Savage. So I'll just go with the Savage. I did wonder about the trigger though.

Just bought a Rem 799 Mauser in .223 over the weekend.  Cute little thing with 20" barrel.  I like Mauser actions, but I have to admit this is pretty rough.  Remington has discontinued the line.

Have been looking for a reasonably priced bolt action .223 for a while and took this flyer.  We'll see.....

those triggers on the stevens rifles are just like a savage pre-accutrigger. they can be worked or adjusted, just takes a little work. they actually can end up really nice if you spend a little time with them.
