Food agression!

  I just about had to John Wayne "Chief" ass tonight! he is 4month old and I've been taking away his food/harassing him when eating. he had been doing really good, just eating quicker no growling or sign of dominance.... tonight i gave him some spaghetti left overs and repeated the process. He growled at me.  I picked him up by the scruff of the neck and shook him.... I have a 4 yr old and will NOT tolerate a meat head!  I guess i had to do this to my last bullet proof Chessy OSO..... Chief had been doing so good and i just got a grate pic of him today at work!

some of those chessies can be aggresive..I got one from a friend yrs ago,dropped her off in the house and ran uptown..She wouldnt let my wife in the house

My last chessy was bomb proof! He even ignored my wife when i was around.... She would try and get him into trouble by getting him up on the bed.... When i was home he wouldn't listen to a command she said.... He would leave her and come sit by me, so he would know he couldn't get into trouble!

my chocolate lab has also been taught to not growl when I mess with his food. just the other day he growled while eating sloppy joe meat in his food. all I did was touch him. I had the same response as you did. I think that his days of getting people food are over, at least for now and I will check him again next time. he has never done it when just eating purina but was quick to defend his manwich.

I still give him the good stuff, but i harass the hell out of him! I hope to desensitize him regarding his food.. I want a dog that will do anything go anywhere that i know is bomb proof.... Been lucky once, now i guess i got to work for it.

My 1YO was the same way. Just be consistent with him. Go mess with your hand in the bowl while he's eating and keep petting him. When hes not growling or protecting his food rub his back and tell him he's a good dog. Bring other dog in the house and keep doing it. If he growls, take his food up for a minute, smack him and give him no! Make him sit for a few then replace his bowl.

I think a lot of problems people have with their dog has to do with THE OWNER not giving the dog praise when they're doing right. We act like robots when training and aren't giving enough "good dogs" and "atta-boys". this goes for simple stuff around the house too.

My fml 1yrs old black lab has had similar issues, but rarely. It seems fine when she eats her regular kibbles but if she gets her mouth on something really good she gets a bit growly. Sometimes I'll feed her out of my hand to keep her from getting aggressive, its good to do every once in awhile. Suprisingly my cats can get aggressive about food, if they get a chicken bone in their mouth they turn into cougars defending their prey!

My dogs dont dare growl at me or another while eating.  I have been playing with them while they were eating since they were pups.  The only thing that I cant break is there aggression towards any dog that comes near them while they eat.  Usually if its canned food, I have to seprate them from my wifes dog.
