I'd find out what's going to happen to it, or did, if something "official" happened to it... Being tribal might change things, but oftentimes you can eventually buy them from DFW at auction or something. (Never done it, but heard that.) I know the Yakima Tribal ADC guy, he's good people. Don't know if he'd have any clout to do anything about it though. (They have tons of Cougar on the res., lots of livestock and pet predation there.)

Non Yakima tribal members cannot hunt fur bearing mammals on tribal land (no coyotes  :( ). So even if the law said he could keep what he hit it happened on tribal land making it illegal for him to take. It belongs to the Yakima Nations now. Highway 97 may be state road but it's on tribal land. Ever see all the signs saying only tribal members may go past this sign on the side reads. If you ain't Yakima you can't leave the highway under tribal regulations.
God Bless,
Scott

#1- The regs are very clear on this.  #2- I, at no time did I say, for example, Killybilly is a poacher, so I accused no one. #3- funny how when some on this site automatically start accusing the Indians as a race,( and there are more than a few Indians on this site), of being poachers for taking game in accordance with the law, the mods stay quite. . #4- More than one individual has said they would break the law and take the animal,  so what would you call it? you know, just so I can be stay P.C. :dunno: :dunno: I'm not trying to start any crap here, but if you want to chastise me for something I did not say or do, you damn well better chastise folks for knowingly addvising others on this site to break the law. Have a great day. Mudeater.

Hey Mudeater, Hope you enjoy this site as much as I do. I do feel that the threads on here are for enjoyment and for plain old talking among other hunters. Some say things that they may or may not do. I do feel that most people would have probably left the cat lay there and followed the rules. But me, I just take things said here as friendly talk, and I have got a good feel on my BS meter on most of the people that frequent this site. A little advise, maybe relax a little and get to know the folks here. I am looking forward to reading more of your posts.

C-Money, I do enjoy this site immensely, however I wont compromise my ethics just to be P.C.  If someone here thinks I accused them of being a poacher, reread my post. I stand by my statement, as some still say they would break the law,and they say this publicly on this forum! If accepting that type of behavior is what is required to get along here, and it seems that's what I'm being told, well then I have to rethink my membership here. And if I dont tell you here what I think and belive and wont accept, such as unlawful and  unethical hunting practices, how will you ever get to know me. Regards Mudeater.

Lay hands on it - don't pray for it to come back to life - throw it in the back of your truck - take it home - skin it - put tag on it.

FAST!!!   Illegal? Maybe technically.  Unethical?  No

The law can't make anything unethical any more than it can make things ethical. It's a matter of right and wrong. The public, the Indians or the cougar will not suffer any loss if aer212 takes the thing home. In reality, the hide may go to waste if he doesn't. That would be a greater loss.

For those of you that do not know for a taxidermist to legally bring a cougar into our shop it must be sealed.  In order to seal it it must be presented to WDFW.  They are going to examine the hide.  What are you going to tell them when they say "Where is the bullet/broad head hole?"

Well officer I jumped out of a tree and beat it to death with a base ball bat!  :P

So now I want to know are you taking the cougar to save the meat or just the hide?

If you think you are going to save the hide than you better be taking it to a taxidermist who is not licensed and doesn't care to have an illegal animal at there place or you better learn how to do your own tanning.  If you think your going to mount it and get a good job all I have to say is good luck.

Mudeater, my point was this: you posted commentary below 11 others guys posts, and claimed that there there must be a lot of poachers on here..... Maybe it is just me, but that sounds like you are referring to someone who posted above you in the thread.

As you know, we all take the term "poacher" very seriously around here, and try not to label anyone with it if possible. Guys often post discussion which is off the cuff, or how they feel at the moment. No need to quickly jump up and label them as a poacher in my opinion.

We want to hear everyones viewpoint, including yours.  My comment was not to stifle your speech, but rather encourage folks to wait and see what answer is determined from the discussion and research.

So you have found an ethical way to break the law? and just what is a technical law? Is it only the technical laws that you can ethically violate? Or can you ethically violate any old law? You seem to be an authority on ethics and the law, so please explain so we can all have the advantage of knowing how to skirt around all these pesky laws?

Thank you for clarifying, but seriously, the word poacher is thrown out like a first name if Indian was in the topic and not towards an individual but  as a race, so how serious is the word again? I am asking you this as an Indian that has never poached a thing in my life and knows the laws I hunt under, the same ones you do. Can you imagine the response here if, I told other Indians, that are on this site that its ok and ethical to violate the hunting laws of this state? Like in the way some here are still advocating breaking the game laws of this state, because after all its not unethical. Regards Mudeater

It is a good law to not allow taking of road kill.  I'm sure the intent of the law is to keep guys from running down animals and claiming it was an accident.  However, if a guy really accidentally hits and kills an animal, it really is a shame not to get something out of wrecking your vehicle.  I wouldn't blame anyone for taking the animal.
