e-cigarettes for hunting

anyone ever use these? while meandering about online the subject came up and I got to thinking... might be a decent alternative for those of us that are addicted disgusting scum (well, that seems to be how we're treated sometimes).

wondering if anyone has used these, and what you thought of them... I know more than a few of the people I went hunting with this last year would have appreciated me smelling less like cigarette smoke.

I don't know too much about them, but a buddy of mine just opened up an E-cigarette shop in downtown Spokane called the Vapor Lounge.  Sounds like business has been really good for him.

Having smoked many of my younger years, I'm a casual smoker now... I can buy a pack or two to smoke around the camp fire or not. And not buy any throughout the rest of the year. (OK, other people's smokes... ) Anyway, I can go months without, which for now is great since I'm on a long stretch without a cancer stick.

That said, In years past, I've shot deer not 20 seconds after I've stomped out a fresh cig. But, critters will wind you if you're a smoker. Great idea to quit smoking. You'll be healthier, your hunting partners will appreciate it, and you'll probably have a better chance at critters.

As for the E-smokes... I couldn't say a thing about them. Just quit.   It's easy!  For the first few months it's like giving up sex!

just quit smoking. i did 3 years ago...smoked for 20 years. can't imagine paying 7 bucks for a pack of smokes now, nevermind the hills are easier since quitting.

I've heard it on the radio. It is an electronic cigg that allows you to smoke water vapor instead of tobacco. They claim most smokers are more addicted to the habit than the nicotine and the e-cigg is a healthier alternative.

I never heard of them before, but I just spent the last half hour researching them.  Unlike Jack of all Trades, I have not been able to quit.  I have tried numerous times, without success.  I have even had my sgt.  request that I start smoking again on a couple of my attempts "half serious I think".  I am going to give these a try.  I have been smoking way to much the last couple of years.  Its really cutting into my wind for hunting, hiking and fighting.

Thanks for this thread, let me know how they work for you, I'll do the same.

Yeah, quitting is a bit tough on what little will power I have... someday, maybe... I just like it too damn much.

They vaporize a liquid that contains nicotine and make you all happy, was thinking this might be a better alt than taking advantage of every moment that the wind is just right. I'm sure "hey dude give me a moment right here" got old.

a friend of mine who is a heavy smoker went to the water vapor format back in November.  He loves it.  He doesn't stink anymore, he doesn't miss out on anything when he steps outside to take a smoke, and he has saved money since then by not purchasing smokes.  He has even noticed a small reduction in his smoking that seems to be trending well.  He has moved to the lowest nicotine content in the electronic cigs.  He even says the snow skiing lung capacity is improving slightly.

I know a few other folks that also use them with varying degrees of success.

I smoked for 15 years and quite a year and a half ago.  If the e-cig works go for it.  If you can talk to you Dr., there are a lot of meds/programs out there now that can be very helpfull.  We had a thread going on here for quite a while to help support people trying to quite.

I will check them out, as I am quitting attempting to use the "willpower option",
I have attempted the substitute (Patches, gum, chaw, snuff etc.) but still like to "light one up"
I have had shots just after both lighting up and putting out,
had a bedded cow elk watch me smoke,
 had bears come in to my Vanilla flavored cigars,
but wish to quit to save money and live to watch my children get older.
So I am quitting again.......

My wife is a smoker and just got her e-cig a few days ago. It is pretty cool and I sure hope it works for her. It has seems to cut her back alot. I now need a suplement for Copenhagen. Been at it since I was 12 so 13 years now. I hate the cost of it and want to quit but everytime I try I get really angry and cannot stop freaking out.

stay away from the patches, they gaveme some weird and scary dreams. Never thought i would be scared or a nightmare in my twenties, but I was. Soon as I quit use the patch the dreams went away.... weird *censored*. Anyways sounds like the E-cigs might work, I will give them a try.

there's a warning in the booklet about the vivid dreams. yeah, I've had the way too vivid dreams myself forgetting to yank the patch off.

cant speak to the e-cigs i was a chewer.  but the weirdly vivid dreams hit me too and i quit chew cold turkey.  had a few that literally made me jump out of bed and had to calm myself down.  my mother is a pharmacist and told me that your body can kick the nicotene addiction in 4 days after that its simply breaking the habit (which is the hardest part). 


good luck quitting its worth it, im putting all the money i would have spent on chew into a coffee tin labelled "hunting fund".  its good motivation to stay the course and its looking like this falls deer hunt will be a doozy.

I think I'm a solid 2 weeks of "chew free"...  Atleast I haven't bought a can and I've only bummed a few dips when out drinking with buddies or shooting.  Oddly enough I went through my last can and just didn't crave a dip anymore.  Its happened like this a few times and I always quit for a few months.  Have noticed that I've been more irritable but going to the gym definitely helps me out a TON!

I went 2 days without a dip earlier this fall when I broke my shoulder and couldn't work out and I was so pissed off it was rediculous... never had withdrawls that bad before and its because I wasn't regularly working out...

I tell ya what... Send Strutnrut1984 a pm and ask him about the opening morning hill my son and I climb. Trust me, if you're a steady smoker and out of shape, this hill is capable of killing you at the pace that my boy and I go up it.

Tell you what.. There's a hilll near you to help you quit smoking. Trust me, you won't want a smoke after just one trip walking up this road. South end of Lake Whatcom. Just north of Mirror lake but west of where the power lines go over head, there's a white gate on the north side of Park road. Park at that gate and walk to the end of the road. Keep to the left. Get to the point where you can walk that road twice in one day, then do it a third time with a day pack on.

You'll give up the smokes really quick!

so far, the exhale still throws something out. I'm not "smoking" this indoors, don't need nicotine coating everything in my house. That also means there is still the possibility for some scent to get out, though it won't be smoke, and with some of the flavored refills (I assume for the folks that drink flavored coffee... fruits!) you could get, it might be a positive thing.

Either I just drank that beer a little too fast, or that thing packs a wallop. the head is a little foggy after 10 drags and a beer. And I'm a 3/4 pack a day of non-filter lucky strikes (LS/MFT!).

After making fun of flavored nicotine, I'm thinking I'm now smoking a black fancy fake cigarette.... there's no way to make this anything but silly.

I bought the same one.  Your right the things have a kick!  I do have to say that I just did 5 drags on it and could feel a nic buzz.  I think I will order a lower nic refill for it.  One thing I did notice is that after only using it for one day so far that I am breathing easier already.  I have alergies to go on top of my smoking and usually feel "stuffy" all day especially if I am smoking alot.  While I think it will take a bit to get used to, I can say that I have not had a real smoke since I got it.  Today I am waiting for my dog to get out of surgery so would normally be a chainsmoking day but so far so good.  A nice thing is no stink, Even after just one day I put on my "smoking jacket" ie the carhart that hangs by the back door and I could smell the cig stink on it.  I had not noticed that stink in years.

I have one and have used it for about a year.  its nice because you can get different flavors and it still lets you see the smoke.  Also there are 3 different nicotine levels you can ourchase.  Kinda like reg light and ultra-light.

I know this is a older thread but I thought I'd dig it back up with the new smoke tax.  My wife and I have smoked for 25 or so years, both at minimum a pack a day. Its obviously getting expensive and taking its toll on us as far as health is concerned. We tried OTC patches and gums with no real results. We even called the 1800quitnow that we spent years paying for, what a joke. Now that the tax is in place we are wanting to quit now more than ever. Ive had enough of not being able to breath and WA states lying government.
We ordered a two pack from a place on line called Cignot.com. I only purchased a single kit meaning two e-smokes figuring we could share and see if they actually worked. I also got the hardcore high mg nicotine fluid. After getting the things on a friday between the two of us we only smoked 4 real cigs all weekend. Since you really need both the e-smokes ive just left them with my wife. She has not had a real smoke in over a week. Ive only been using them at home and have not smoked at home in over a week. We just ordered another set with msc accessories for the car and such. Weve invested $120 and have already saved half that in just over a week.
The best part is my wife is not at all missing her smokes and is not having withdraw symptoms that we both had while trying the patch systems. She also believes that her the next order of vapor juice will only be half the nicotine concentration. Granted we both look sort of stupid with a metal pen looking thing hanging from our faces but they are definatly are great way to quit.
If your a hardcore smoker I really think these thing are a great alternative. Cignot.com has great service and I'd suggest them without any hesitation.

Congrats Don - soon you will be down to the minimum nicotine level and smoking the e-cigarette less frequently.  easier to breath and WA legislators will have to find a new way to tax you for next year, since you aren't contributing on the sin taxes like you used to.

Its interesting how some folks have the fortitude to just quit, and how some struggle with it immensly.  I am not passing judgement with that comment by the way.  I don't smoke.  Never have except for maybe at an occasional party when the booze was flowing.  My father quite after 30+ years of at least a pack a day though.  Just cold turkey, boom, not going to smoke anymore.  Maybe he is just tough.  Well, I know he is.  I have snappers here at work that try every gimmick in the book, but they have no self control, so as soon as something stressful happens or they get bored, out the door they go to go light up.

I know some hard core smokers that have had very good success with the e-cigarette over the last year.  They are still smoking the e-cigarette, but they are down to about 1/2 - 1/4 of the volume by comparison.  They also feel better, have less cost associated with it, don't stink like cigarettes, and are working their way down to 0 use.

No offense taken. I am still struggling but my wife is not. I'm set in my ways and can smoke in my shop all day long. Its pretty rare to see me even while working without a smoke a hanging out of my mouth. We have never smoked in our house so that makes it alot easier at home.
I think the e-smokes are great for those that are like the wife and I. Great for the bored or even stressfull times. We can always go outside and puff on the e-smokes.

Last year I paid $1642 in just wa state smoke tax alone. This year for tax alone would be $2372 and I cant run to the mail box without hacking up a lung. Along with hopefully getting my lungs back, I get to save over 5 grand a year.

Cool my neighbor grows his own. He started in the back yard and the county made him stop. He just put in a large greenhouse and has started back up. I guess you have to grow it in a secured area to keep the kids out.
