Is this a deer rub?
«

I know this is going to make me look like an idiot but is this a deer rub or what? I was walking around the edge of my property and noticed this and two others like it in the small alders and they were all kinda in a row... it just looks kinda wierd to me like claw marks or something...

My vote is no. Have you looked for tracks in the area?

Not a deer rub for sure. Most likely a bear, but why one would do such a gratuitous scratching I don't know. Usually they're much more serious about it than that.

I'd have to agree that its probably some bear scratches or possibly cougar. I have seen scratches like that in an area where I've seen several bear and a cougar. I dont know enough about cougars so its hard to say its from one.

Deer or elk. The marks seem to be too random in spacing to be cat or bear unless it only has one or two claws.

I see alot of those in my front yard, it's usually from the smaller bulls, the bigger bulls tear the trees up.

I agree, not a bear.
