I bought a 22-250 from wholesale sports in November and got it putting together pretty good groups at 100. I need to shoot it more to really have confidence in it going forward, but the initial results are quite good. A touch heavier rifle than a Remington, but all in all a good value for the off the shelf rifle.

they're pretty nice outa the box and for the price you can't beat em. after a little massaging they can be real tack drivers. im gonna build my new elk/griz rifle on a howa action.

Why? There are plenty of American Rifle makers. Why would you send your moey oversees? I will not buy any rifle not made here in the U.S.A. It just seems unamerican to me. If you want value look at a Marlin. You can get one of those for like $350 brand new

Why does something as simple as asking a question about a rifle have to become a political debate? Why is it your business or my business on what or where he spends his hard-earned money? He asked a simple question. I'm sure that he is a grown man and he is capable of making logical decisions based on his wants, needs and beliefs... not yours. One of the great things about being an American is having choices... there is nothing "unamerican" about that. I own American, Japanese, French, German, Russian, Chinese and Swiss made rifles... I'm not ashamed of that.

I was wondering the same thing. Ford or Toyota - same debate. keep in mind that Howa makes Weatherby Vanguard, so it would be the same as Mazda making some of Ford's parts.

if'n you want to build a custom, I have one sitting in the safe wearing a B&C stock. currently a 7rem mag, that is really too good to tear apart, but I just have not got around to spinning it yet.

Howas are great rifles. Very strong, and will give you years and years of good service. Price is one of the selling points for them. Like was said above, they are almost identical to the Vanguard, and the S&W 1500.

If you want to do a custom, you can buy just the barreled action cheaper than a whole rifle.

He asked what we thought of them. My response is why. I have the right to voice my opinion. In this bad economic times we need to look at supporting the homeland. Just my opinion. I see lots of threads on here about how American we all are but how do we support our great country. By buying guns from japan. Not me!!

Sorry for jacking your thread!! I thought I did answer your question by saying buy American made. It supports our economy and keeps American jobs here instead of oversees. Not much you can buy that is American made anymore.

galpster, I hear ya on americanism, but the fact is the guns, regardless of country of origin are here in the good ol' USA, so it really matters not if it were a pre 64, a mexican mauser, a beretta or a howa. if it is here it is going to be bought and sold by americans.

howa are one of the few rifles that guarentee accuracy.

My Howa 1500 in .270 out shoots my dad and my wife's Remington 700's all day long. It shoots consistent groups. I traded a Ruger M77 strait across for it back in 1994 and never regretted it.

Howa rifles are well made and accurate. If you find one you like go for it, you should not have any issues. Look at the Weatherby Vanguards, they put a really nice piece of walnut on the deluxe models!

I have a howa 1500 in 300 win. and my only issue with it is that the trigger really sucks! i plan on replaceing it soon.

Howa triggers are easily adjustable. I have a custom .257 AI on a Howa action, trigger breaks perfectly at 3 lbs. No creep or over travel at all.

I had a gunsmith work on my Weatherby Vanguard trigger. The lowest he could get it was 4 1/4 lbs. So I ended up having him install a new Timney trigger which is set at 2 1/2 lbs.

Imho one of the best rifles for the money. I purchased a heavy barreled varmint 22-250 in 04 for $440. I bought a boyds thumbhole, glass bedded and floated it, and got the trigger down below 2lbs. Most accurate rifle i own, has prined sub .2" groups
