AR-15 varmint scope
« on: February 11, 2010, 08:15:39 PM »
My dad just purchased an AR-15 flat top and i was wondering if anyone knew what would be a good scope for it. He will be using it for hunting coyotes. I'm not sure if normal rifle scopes will fit? Any help would be much appreciated!!

the scopes will all fit. it's the scope bases that you need to get right to fit the gun. the rings connect to the bases and the scope sits in the rings!

whats your dad's price range for a scope? that's the #1 question.

We for sure need a price range to start out with for suggestions.  I personally am running the Burris PEPR scope bases and have a 3x12x42 Nikon monarch scope and I love the setup.  What kind of AR did he get a varmint or M4 style?

Not cheap but probably one of the nicest little systems I have used.

They have a 4 MOA dot so whatever you're comfortable with.  I was carrying mine to stands where I knew distances wouldn't be more than 100yds.  I've since then scoped it, and +1 on the Burris PEPR mount.  Gay name, but very steady and affordable.

I got a sweet deal on a new monarch 1.5-5 turkey shotgun scope ($145). Works good enough out to 350-400yrds. and allows me to keep the iron back-up site on too.  Within 75 yrds the turkey plex frames a mans chest and allows fast shot placement also has cross hairs for more precise shooting at farther distances.
