I saw a one horned whitetail in my neighborhood 2 weeks ago, so at least some are dropping.

Whitetails are mostly dropped. Muleys are about 1/2 or more.

Sure is nice to see a deer from up that way not up to his withers in snow this time of year. Maybe the whities are finally catching a break and can rebound.

On Jan 29 Th, in northern Spokane county, saw a small group of deer (6-8) near Elokia lake. One very large bodied white tail deer, was a a buck who had shed. Spot where shed from very visible with binoc's.
I believe the deer have not concentrated to the winter area as much as previous years. I am seeing deer back in the fields west of Deer Park. Not many. but a few. Normally they are not in this area now, due to the snow. I saw a group of deer (20+-) yesterday evening, east of Millers one stop about 2 miles, on the Elk to Highway road. Normally the deer in that area have migrated, they have been there all winter. I believe sheds will be scattered over a much larger area.

This area is the only cover for a few miles. 1 mile squared timber surrounded by ag fields for miles. I was in there again the other day and saw a decent set of cougar tracks and alot of cat dung.. that might explane my question.. The deer probably got pushed out of there.. 4 years Ive lived out here, its the first coug sign ive seen..

On a worm winter I've seen bigger bucks keep them on through March. Around Chewelah. Back when we had late buck opening on Thanksgiving day and friend shot one and the horns came off in his hands. It was 22 below zero that day. I shot a nice 4 point in the rut that day too and his horns were as solid as a rock.

I visited with a niece of mine today. She and her boyfriend spent time today near Browns Lk. and CCA creek. They found one WT shed, had been on the ground long enough to be chewed on a little, but this years, fairly fresh.

Yep, this is one of those years. There are always exceptions to the rule but that is mother nature.
Usually whitetail end of Dec. to mid Jan. with exceptions, mule deer mid Jan to March with exceptions. I saw a mule deer 2 point with totally white horns in April. Exception! Get to Lookin.

Always exceptions. About three years ago my buddys and I were over in north stevens county on march 30th fishing and saw a nice 4pt. whitetail running along the opposite river bank that still had both antlers. Watched him for about 200 yards hopng he would drop them......no luck. Strange. Never thought I'd see a whitetail with antlers so close to april.

the whitetails with horns still are the odd balls out there because most of the whitetails have all dropped.
