Budget scopes

I just got my scope in the mail today. Thanks again elknut for the awesome deal!  Unfortunately Wholesale Sports sold me the wrong rings. They sold me medium height detachable rings. It seems I am going to need either the extension, or dual extension rings, possibly even high instead. When I went to mount the scope the flared parts of the tube were resting on the rings, and the magnification adjustment ring was resting on the rear base. Anyone know if I can exchange it at any wholesale sports or would it have to be the one where I purchased? I am really not wanting to make a 3rd 180 mile round trip to exchange rings if I can avoid it.

I had to use an offset base for the rear of my old model 10 savage with that scope.

check that...the ring was offset, not the base.

You sure I won't need the high height? Seemed odd to me that the magnification adjustment ring was resting on the rear base.

if you didnt ding the rings up too bad and have the packaging they might take it back.

also, i would like to add that i'm really glad that nobody chimed in to say "save your money for a leica or swarovski, blah, blah, blah." instead everyone stuck to his budget and offered their advice.

Rings not dinged at all, and I still have the original packaging so I will be taking them back. Jackelope offered to hook me up with some rings if he still has his spare set. If that works out I may exchange my wrong rings for some media for my tumbler, or some more ammo for the new rifle.    Definitely some very nice people on this forum.

It would likely cost you less to buy that one from SWFA than it would to drive 180 mile round trip in gas to exchange them. Just a thought I guess unless you just want to go to sportsmens. Maybe the one in Mt Vernon would take them back and swap you out. Is that closer?

Ya, I called and was told I can return it at a closer store, as long as I have the receipt. So I will probably swing by there Sunday to exchange them. I'll be taking the rifle as well and have them mount the scope for me to make sure I get the right rings though.

Yay, I took rifle, rings and scope back to wholesale sports in burlington this time, and finally my scope is mounted.  They even bore sighted it for me. Now I just can't wait to shoot it.

Looks good!  I see you are letting it sleep in the bed with you.  That's OK to do it once or twice, but don't let it get used to sleeping with you, or it will be a hard habit to break.

Well I got off early from work today and headed to the range. Weather today was great for shooting. I didn't wanna use my expensive federal vital-shok ammo for breaking in the barrel, so I stopped at walmart and picked up their last 2 boxes of remington express 180gr core-lokt in .30-06. After firing it through a 7.5lb rifle from a bench one word comes to mind......OUCH! After my first 10 rounds I actually started placing a sandbag between my shoulder and the stock. Even with that I had to call it a day after only 24 rounds though.

The scope performed flawlessly. Great visual clarity and brightness. I am very happy with it's performance so far. Thanks again Elknut for the spectacular deal on it. 

My performance was not so flawless. I am pretty sure I was flinching due to not being accustomed to the recoil. So after "dialing in" my scope at 100 yards; my best 4 shot group was still about 2 inches across. I think I am gonna have to invest in a limb saver and/or switch from 180gr bullets I have now to some 165gr or maybe even 150gr bullets. My shoulder already has the start of some good bruising. I expect it to be very purple by tomorrow.

a limbsaver pad or any other good pad is a given for me...they all get them.
glad to hear you got out and got the gun shot...a 2" group is not too bad out of a brand new gun the first time you shoot it.
