Sight pins getting blurry due to age !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: February 09, 2010, 06:54:45 AM »
Turned 45 this year and close up vision is going south.  >:( I've noticed this year that my pins are not as precise as last year . I'm shooting the spothogg wrap around with the smaller pin size. I think I can get by this year  but I can see next year I will need to take care of this problem. Has anyone dealt with this ? Seems like there is three solutions.  Move pins further out , get bigger pins or wear some kind of glasses. So far I am in denial and not doing the glasses thing. I would also hate to go to the bigger pins for accuracy reasons. I see a lot of 3d tourney guys with sights pretty far out, might be the best solution ? Thanks. Mike

Some of it may be due to the age of the fiber in the sight.  Fiber can fade over time or just get plain dirty.

Simply extend your sight an inch and it may make a world of difference.  Yes, next year or the year after you may need to get glasses or contacts or maybe not, but it will possibly save you a year or more of dealing with glasses.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

Sight is a spothogg wrap around with plenty of brightness. I simply now need reading glasses & stuff to close is starting to get blurry. I think I will try extending my sight out a little further & see if that takes care of it. Thanks. Mike

Maybe look into the peeps made with an interchangeable lens made for this type of problem.  Much like wearing glasses, but not actually wearing them.  It could cause problems with fogging and getting wet while hunting, but you might be able to devise a cover to snap over it to keep it dry out in the woods.  Also, sometimes a different diameter peep can change the way your eye adapts to looking through it, therefore clearing the pins or making them more blurry, depending on your eye-brain synapses.  Maybe try wrapping thread around the inside of your peep to see if making the peep hole smaller clears things up.  It is a long shot that it would work, but it's a cheap thing to try.

Better check into an extension for my spot hogg sight, might make me a better shooter. Mike

I shoot the Hogg It and bought the 8 inch extension so I could get the entire housing in my peep.
Mine is also the .010 pins with the wrap and I have worn glasses forever.
Be thankful you made it this far!

I had the same issue.  I picked up the Spot Hog 7-pin. in the .10.  I took it  back and got the .19 optic.  I think I am going to go back to the 5-pin and up the size to the .29.  Hopefully that will take care of everything or drop down to a 3-pin.  As I was using the Mathews Reezen 6.5 and all the pins were stacked tight until about 40 yards due to the speed.  I just sold my Reezen on Saturday and looking at a new bow for 2010 season.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!
