broke down and got a camera
« on: February 18, 2010, 01:32:57 PM »
Its not a Canon 40 or 50d but it will work for me for a couple years. I got the canon EOS XSi 12.2 mega pix, 3" LCD screen, etc... Came with a 18-55mm 3.5-5.6f IS lens. I also got a canon camera backpack and 8 gb SD card. Now I need to save for a nice lens.

Nice Chris, Great camera, I am selling my XSi cause I just bought the 50D and 17-55mm F2.8. No complaints on the XSi though, It has been a great camera and I have gotten some pretty good shots with it, I think you'll enjoy it !!!

Congrats on the camera Teacherman, you just opened up a whole new way to enjoy the outdoors.

You too Robo, you will really like the better feel and balance of the 50D when using larger lenses.

I have the Xsi and it is a great camera for an amateur like me.  I might upgrade eventually but for now it works fantastic for me with the short lens and a 75-300 lens.

The XSI is a great little camera, fits in your pack easier. The 18-55IS is also an excellent starter lens. If you shoot mostly outdoors and pack your camera around in the woods I'd suggest 17-40L and 70-200L both f4. Both have sealed bodies and dont change in length while zooming. No crud geds sucked back into the lens.

Good luck with your new toy

I'm thinking of getting a Canon T1i.  15.1 Mp.

Thoughts?

That is what my wife has and with a good lens assortment, you can take some real quality pics. Have fun. I went out and got the Nikon 70-300vr lens and some filter's this weekend myself, can't wait to get it out in the field.

probable get crap about it but I picked it up on eBay, new in the box, with USA papers and warranty for $535 with shipping and a 18-55 IS lens, same camera, body only at best buy was $649. Then I got the canon back back, filters, extended battery pack and a bunch of other stuff. Its the same internet company we have bought several of the canon xsi cameras from for my school.
