im in shock.
« on: February 24, 2010, 03:00:18 PM »
ive been shed hunting this last week and decided to do a little last night. i went to the edge of a stubble field and watched 32 whitetail deer and 11 of them still had headgear! all of them had both sides and a couple of them were in the 130 inch range. elk are going to be dropping before these deer do!!

Yup, saw a little whitetail buck still packing both sides above Waitsburg the day before yesterday... :bash: :bash: :bash:  I thought it was only the muleys that were screwed up this year, but evidently the whiteys haven't dropped either.  I think it is the warm weather.

Does this mean the elk won't be dropping til  July...??? :dunno:

I don't remember where I read it but I remember reading that stress has something to do with the timing of antlers shedding - a light winter equals less stress  :dunno:

I hope a few more drop before I make it out shed hunting again.

I'm hoping the blacktails are still packing their antlers as I have my new game camera out for the first time and hope to get some pictures of some good bucks. It's been out since Friday afternoon, along with my brother's in the same general area. We'll be checking them Friday morning. Hoping for some pictures of anything really, but mostly I'm really hoping it hasn't been stolen.

I've got trail cam pics of two different bucks, one that was shed out on January 23rd, and the other on February 5th...

Not good news, guys! Oh well, maybe I should get out and look for sheds. Will plan on trying for pictures of some bucks in July and August.

they're waiting because of me, they know that my is due with our second in April so they're going to drop right before that :chuckle:

I'm seeing about 30-40% of the mulies around here have dropped. surprised to hear of so many whities still packing.

This.  The heard that lives in our neighborhood has 3 REALLY nice blacktail bucks and a handfull of smaller guys.  Saw all three big boys in my yard last week and they were all stripped of antlers.

There you go Bulldog, you were asking about shed hunting tips. Locating 6 bucks right before they shed is a great way. Just dont bump them out of where they are. Let em shed there. Good luck!
