Last and final derby trial win (pictures)
« on: February 25, 2010, 01:25:16 PM »
Just got back from the Southern Open Brittany Classic in Virginia.  My pup ran her last trial as a derby and managed to win .  That makes two straight wins as a Derby (dogs up to 24 months old).  Shes been running in adult stakes, but this was a derby classic (45 minute trail) and was dual sactioned by the AKC and AF (American Field).  We ran her one last time as a derby since the trial was sanctioned by AF as well.  She has now done all she can as a young dog and its on to adult trials full time.  She runs in an adult Gun Dog trial this weekend and then she comes home until she heads to summer camp in S. Dakota in July.  She will run the complete fall trial circuit next fall in either All Age trials or Gun Dog trials depending on how she progresses this summer.  Im hoping she will run big enough to be an All Age dog, but time will tell...    If she turns out anything like her daddy she will have a nice career as an All Age dog, provided I can find enough time away from hunting to continue trialing her.  If anyone is even slightly interested in trials, go see one.  They are a lot of fun and a great way to extend your hunting season (even though you don't kill any birds in AKC and AF trials).  Its also a great way to keep your dogs in shape for hunting season.

Good job. The ecollar around the flank, I didn't think you could run with an ecollar in field trials. I have thought about entering one but have never done anything but NAVHDA. NSTRA looks like it would be fun also.

You cant.  The first one is just a picture of her standing, taking about 3 weeks ago.

Congrats!

Just got off the phone with the trainer.  She ran at the same trial grounds in Virginia in Open Gun Dog this weekend.  It was a 40+ dog trial.  Well, she managed to place second and get 2 more points toward her field champion title.  We weren't expecting this one at all.  She is still only 20 months old.  We were planning on bringing her home next weekend and letting her grow up and mature, so hopefully someday she could compete against the adult dogs.  This threw a little monkey wrench in our plan.  Were pretty proud, but not sure what to do with her now.
