Yes I would clean it before you shoot it to get any oil or metal shavings out I would run a patch with cleaning solvent through it and a few dry ones. The you should be ready to fire.
i dunno if you necisarely NEED to. but every rifle i buy, new or used, first thing i do is clean is really good, and make sure no parts are missing. i even clean guns that were cleaned before they were sent to me (used ones).
I take them into the shower with me, that way they are clean and ready for wetside hunting
