Idaho Panhandle Man Bags First Wolf
February 24, 2010
The pictures below I received in my email. It is my understanding that these pictures are of the same wolf written about in the Coeur d’Alene Press and the same wolf IDFG biologist Jim Hayden nearly blew a gasketover. In the email I received it said the wolf weighed 175 pounds. The CDA Press article said that Brett Pitcher got what he “estimated” to be a 180-pound wolf. Hayden went half out of his mind to think the CDA Press would write that when the wolf was not “officially” weighed. Who cares? It’s a big wolf.
The photos show the wolf complete. When Pitcher took the wolf to IDFG headquarters, where Hayden inspected it, it was only the head and fur, as is only required for inspection.
Congratulations on a marvelous kill and I’ll say it again. I don’t care how much it weighs, it’s a big wolf.

I just can't see 180 pounds. It appears to be tall if it was standing on all 4, but skinny. It looks in the picture to be no bigger than my old rott, and she was only 98 pounds. I guess I would just have to see it in real life. Always good to see wolves being managed.

I don't think it's 180. But at least it's dead.

It being dead is all that counts in my mind, whether it's 80 or 180, still a lot of animals saved.

whats it the 1st of?
thats not the 1st wolf that got killed when the wolf season opened...first of 2010? the guy's 1st wolf?
cool color and congrats to the hunter for sure.
I don't think he's 180 pounds either. I have a 90 pound lab and he's a little bigger than my mutt.
I say 130 or so.

Another story on this wolf.

I dont know if this is the same wolf WAcoyotehunter is talking about though because the kid only brought the hide and head to the check station.

Cool, good for Brett.
I know this guy, good kid and a good hunter as well. He was in an elk camp with me back in 2006 by Pritchard. Wolfs are getting bad around there.

No matter what he weighed, he's big and I congratulate him. I wished I had one just like it, heck it looks like the head nearly weighs half of what he claimed...just kidding...lol
