Dogtra 2500
«

I am looking at gettin a training collar and was lookin at the dogtra 2500. I have heard a little bit about this collar but would like to get some first hand reveiws. How does it do in water? I dont plan on doing any duck hunting but sometimes we end up droppin birds on oposite sides of drainage ditches so i want a collar that will with stand a beeting.

We bought the Dogtra 2500 Train&Beep 2 dog system in March of 09. The dogs have worn the collars probably 3/4 of the time since then. They work great, hold a charge for 3-4 days at a time, recharge quickly, and though they looklike they are used a ton they keep working. We have already decided that we will purchase another one when this one wears out. The dogs h worn them swimming and through all sorts of wet environments without any trouble. We have not had them in extreme cold, though they were wearing them most of the last week or so in the low teens overnight and twenties during the day and they worked just fine. I would say you can not wrong with the 2500 from my experience.

Can't speak for the 2500, but I own the 1900 and it's been great. It's held up well to rough terrain and water.
My only gripe is that box on the collar itself is pretty large. My male gsp is ~60lbs, and it looks a little bulky on him. I guess that's to give it more juice, which I don't need. I would prefer a more compact collar just for the aesthetics. I train with the collar on 14-16 and hunt with it on 17-18 and it works like a charm.

I highly reccomend Dogtra. It is a very good investment for you and your dog. Both my dad and I own the 2500 T&B and we swam our GWP pups everyday this summer with no problems at all. I took both pups down to my buddys place on Ohop lake and they both swam for almost an hour straight. The collars never faultered. I also own the 2000 T&B, which is the previous version to the the 2500. My GSP is going to be nine, so that collar is almost eight years old and the only problem I have with it now is when it takes an extreme dunking the collar will quit beeping. I got my moneys worth out of that collar and it still functions normally aside from the extreme dunking.
The T&B is great for piece of mind in general. Most of the time I don't use the nick or constant, but just beep my dogs to find out where they are. Usually when I beep them the dogs know that I am looking for them. If they aren't listening such as chasing the cats then I might give them some pep, but usually one or two beeps works fine. I also noticed with the 2500 that when I am using the beeper portion when the dog is in heavy brush that I can still manually beep the dog and it will not make me reset the beeper mode that I am using like the 2000 does. Again I highly reccomend Dogtra.

I have had great success with the 2500 T&B. I have yet to have a problem, very easy to use and seems to be very durable. I have never had a problem with water I never used it for waterfowl but both my dogs love the water and have gotten it soakin wet and packed full of snow. Good choice is my

I had used mine for about six months and it worked great. Dog got into a porkupine and had to be put down.
I still miss him. Then I gave my other dog to Dontgetcrabs so I sold the collar on craigslist.

We've had our dogtra for over 5 years...we love it. I would go to a store and just get a feel for what is more comfortable in your hands. Tritronics, Dogtra are both great.

I know you asked about Dogtra...but...I have a Tri-tronics (made in the USA). I know MANY dog trainers that use Dogtra and are VERY happy with them. I also know alot of dog trainers that use Tri-Tronics. I guess its kind of like what is better "remington or winchester?" Go to Cabelas or whatever outdoors shop you frequent and hold them in your hand. See what feels right to you.
I can say that my Tri-Tronics 70 G2 EXP can run up to 6 dogs with a mile range on it and it's TOTALLY waterproof! I spent a good portion of last summer swimming the dogs at the lake to work thier retrieves and cardio! Just about one of the only ways to wear out my 2 year old pup!
Either way...I'm sure you'll be happy with either Dogtra or Tri-Tronics.

you should be very happy with any dogtra products. right now i think they hold up better than the tri tronics stuff. jim and phyllis dobbs who own dogtra did almost all of the r&d for tri tronics till the late 90's. i have both kinds of collars but only dogtra for my remote launcher electronics. the titronics training book was wrote by jim and phyllis while they worked for TT. they also run retriever hunt test here and in ore. sometimes, so you can personaly talk to them once in awhile.
