Badgers - Legal or not?

Yesterday watched a Badger near Yakima for 15 min.  Are they legal to shoot?  I don't ever remember reading anything about them in the regs.  Really fun watching it, had my 5 yr old with me.

Not legal to shoot.  You can trap them with a trapper's license but definitely illegal to shoot.

You can shoot'm with a pellet pistol. Ya do gotta get close enough to kill'm with with the under powered weapon. I'm sure the first shot will just piss'm off.

True, and they do make for some great pics.  Very cool looking animals, I am going to try and trap one next year to get it mounted.

Badgers have been around in the open ground all my life. I have trapped them but never shot any. What is odd they still have a trapping season and WDFW has an enhancement program for badgers in the budget.

I was surprised myself when I saw it.  I was calling yotes with my 5 yr old son, and after 10 minutes this badger pops up at 360 yards out.  I couldn't tell at first what it was, looked the color of a yote, the face of a fox, the body of a rockchuck.   Then it'd move, and it looked like a badger.  This went on for about 5 minutes till I was sure it was a badger  We then just watched it for another 10 or so minutes, it must have a den there, the ground was all tore up in a 10 foot diameter.  Was out in the sage, the only spot I saw cattails in the middle of lots of sage, on a side hill.  Must have been a little spring or some seep there.  This might give me the excuse for my wife to go pick up a good SLR

My grampa used bobwire.  YOu take five strands and ball it up to make a ball, then you take a wood handle, and attach it.  Then if you have the guts, jam it down a badger hole.  Kinda like fishing but I recommend wearing some shin gards!

i had lady ask me one time to shoot some badgers on her property, at first i got all exited to do some shooting,  but after i checked the regs,  i had to pass on the offer

If you want to hunt a badger, you can hunt them in several other states.

I think a land owner can shoot one if they are causing property damage. I know of cattle ranchers who have shot them for digging big holes.

My dad and I were shooting Prairie Dogs in Wy one year after a pronghorn hunt.  we would shoot one, and a badger would come out like a bat out of hell, snag the dog, and haul it back to his den.  he must have done this a half dozen times.  he would wait for ht shot, and the come out like greased lightening after his prize.
