I have been bailed on a few times but have never lost a day of hunting. I enjoy hunting alone, that is until I stick one. Then it's time to call in the pack team. :chuckle:

I've had a couple of hunting partners that would weasel out on me. I give them the benefit of the doubt the first time, maybe even a second time, as I do understand that things happen. After that... I decide it's a pattern, and cut them. Inevitably, they start to realize you aren't asking them to go anymore, and start to whine about how they'd really like to go. I just string 'em out from there.

I've had a couple of partners over the years that started to show a "tardiness" pattern. After a while, I just tell them "we're meeting at 6:00. If you're there at 6:00 or before, you can ride with me, if you show up at 6:10 or later, you'll see an empty parking space. I'll tell ya, after one of those, they self calibrate. After two, I just quit inviting them.

The thing these weasels don't seem to take into consideration is that a solo hunt has to planned differently than a partner hunt. Some things especially, like duck hunting, or ESPECIALLY elk. I had A FORMER partner string me along all Spring and Summer year before last to elk hunt Idaho. Weaseled out 3 weeks prior to the opener. Had to hunt alone.... on the backside of nowhere. Elk hunting is NOT something you want to do alone, due to where they live, and what's involved in getting them out if you get one! I actually kind of considered myself lucky that I didn't connect! When a "partner" puts you in a position where you feel like you lucked out by not getting your animal (on a $600 tag, no less!) you've got a problem you need to fix. I fixed it. He's PNG.... persona non grata.

That, sports fans, is my  :twocents:

Hunting or fishing, I have a 10 minute grace then I'm gone! You bail twice and no more invites. I hate being late, and like it even less when someone else is late. I use to have a friend that was always late, but I liked him so I let it slide for a long time. Then when he didn't show for a 4 day elk hunt, the ties were cut and I never hunted with him again. Sometimes it's tough, but I look at it as a lack of respect, and that's not OK. Move on, chances are you'll find someone on here that becomes a trusty, reliable brush buster.  Good luck  Mark

And never allow them to drive you out hunting  :bdid:

It never fails, when I ask someone along and they drive they always have to be back at a certain time.

The prior discussion about an ALL DAY hunt is ruined by a "Well, I have to be home by noon because Sally wants me to go with her to the doctor"  and you learn this after you have been on the road for an hour.   :yike: WHAT THE HELL???  >:(

The worst is when they show up after a night of drinking and have beer farts in the truck and on stand all day long.  Rather they stayed home.   :chuckle: :chuckle:  I like to be alone especially when predator hunting.  My sets are at least an hour long and I barely move.  My brothers and friends cant sit still for 10 mins.   :chuckle:

I have been on both sides of the equation.  My favorite is when a partner once went home early, and his dad killed a bull, and we got to call him to meet us at the cooler.   :chuckle:
