Bear Hunting in GMUs 437 & 448? We need to talk.
« on: February 03, 2008, 08:55:51 PM »
Not asking where your honey-holes are or to take me w/you, but I would like to swap food source knowledge that I have learned in the last 4 yrs w/those of you "Nimrods" who may have more "woods time" in the Stilly valley than me.  I know what bears eat but I also know that not all GMUs or even areas within GUMs are the same from Aug to Nov.

I'm far from a serious bear hunter, but I spend a LOT of time in the eastern side of 437.
I see an average of 2-3 bear a year in this area, and plenty of sign....traditionally they're either too small (for me) to be shooters, or I'm packing archery gear and can't get within 50-100yds.  :bash:

I used to have access (keys and combo's) for a lot of Crown Pacific land, but once Sierra bought 'em out I haven't been able to get close to some of my favorite areas without a lot of hiking/biking. I don't mind it, but I don't prefer long expeditions when I'm all by my onesy.
I left it better than I found it...did you?
I hunt animals because veggies are too easy to stalk.
