Keeping my fingers crossed
« on: March 03, 2010, 10:57:24 PM »
I'm taking my two year old lab, Kalle, in for her O.F.A. tests tomorrow.  I'm not really worried, but....I kinda am.  I always worry when the vet has to knock 'em out.  Wish us luck.

I picked Kalle up from the vet Thursday afternoon.  No problems with the anesthesia.  Now I just have to wait for the folks at O.F.A. to do their evaluation.  Still keeping my fingers crossed.

Well.... I got the results from the OFA yesterday, and Tiger Mt Kalle  has mild hip dyspepsia. :(  I have left a message with the breeder to exercise the health guarantee, but I have fallen in love with my dog, and I am reluctant to give her up.  If I do keep her she will be spayed.  The whole idea of doing these tests is to eliminate bad genes, so that is what I will do.

I still have Tri Labs Misty Magic Miah.  I'll get her OFA x-rays soon.  It cost $421 :yike:, so it may have to wait for a while.

Old dog, your dog could be fine.  From what I know the hip cert is done in blocks of ten and they rank the dogs within that group of ten there is no set standard.  So in that group of ten if they all have horrible hips one will get excellent and so on.  Added to that you could have had bad xrays  Some breeders will send there dogs in multiple times until they get a good or great cert.  Dont give up on your dog just yet talk to the vet and do a little more reseach.  Good Luck
If it aint broke, dont fix it.

Thanks fot the input.  I contacted the breeder and he said that I get one re-do, so I have an appointment with a different vet to have her x-rayed again.  My fingers are starting to cramp from keeping them crossed for so long.
