Target practice
« on: March 05, 2010, 07:57:26 PM »
Just wondering if anyone knows of any good places to shoot in the woods. Preferably in the orting, graham area. I hate the tacoma sportsmans club, the last time I went there I had to wait almost an hour just to get a bench and then wait forever for people to check there targets. That place used to be good. Now it's full of a bunch of dumb a##'s

We just use clear cuts here.  Around the Shelton area, we are logged mostly by Green Diamond.  All we have to do is call Green Diamond and tell them where and when and they tell us whether or not we can shoot there because they are/aren't working on that lot.  They all have logging roads in and around the clear cut so they're easy to traverse and get back into so we keep it safe by not shooting near the highway.

Thank you for the addition.  Saves the OP a phone call.  Just look around using google maps to find some promising looking areas.  Look those areas up on a county GIS map, found online, and find the parcel numbers.  Look the parcel number up on the county assessor's parcel ID site and find the owner.  Google the owner to find a phone number and call.

Just that simple.  I use this to find private land to hunt on too.  If an area looks promising from satellite photos, I'll contact the owner and ask for permission to scout and hunt the land.  If they say yes, I scout it for a few days.  If it's not as good as the satellite photos led me to believe, I'll move on to the next area and repeat.

It is private.  Well worth the annual membership.  I think you have to do an orientation as a new member.  Nice group of guys shoot there.  They also have some sanctioned 50BMG shoots that are fun to watch.

I realy prefer to shoot in the woods, no rush or other folks to deal with.
I went with a freind yesterday down by Winlock, we both were working up hand loads at 100 yards. My freind "Wade" wanted to use his new crony so I left mine at home and he forgot his tripod, thats why in the pic you see the crony set up on my little tripod and on a chair.
