Memories
« on: March 07, 2010, 10:29:25 PM »
Here's a few pics that I took of an elk skull I found a couple years ago while elk hunting. I was probably 3 miles up into no mans land in a huge patch of old grouth timber above lake Quinault where I found it and you can see from the moss that it had been there a long time . I thought about packing the head out but considering how much more time there was left in the day to hunt, I just took some pics, marked it on the GPS and left it. At the time I didnt realize it was actually illegal to take it so I guess it was good thing I left it. I looked all over for maybe and old arrow or anything but found nothing. Kind of a cool find though.

I like finding stuff like that when I am in the woods.  Always makes me wonder how it died.

Considering where it was at, a cougar kill wouldnt be out of the question. A few years back, I was up in the same area and had a cougar come sneeking in on me while I was making a few cow calls.  :yike: Kinda scary when a meat eating animal comes looking your direction for a 500 lb animal to eat.
I actually found 3 different cow skeletons up there the same day I found that skull. Makes you wonder what killed them too. I actually found both ivories in one of the cows too. Fun day of hunting. :)
