Hydatid eggs are in dog poop and subsequently on its paws and hair (especially if they like to rub their backs in dirt).
Dogs that have worms have occasional diarrhea. I do not know if this applies to Hydatid worms. That is how I used to know when my dog had worms. De-worming is not always 100% sucess. Sometimes it has to be repeated in a week or two.  :twocents:

I wrote a few times, reffering to these articles that Wolfbait shared with us, all regarding how scarry the hydatid disease is... I mentioned a few cases on people that I used to know. My mom just yesterday told me, that my uncle was infected with IT and had a surgery performed on him 5 years ago. I thought that he had some herpes, I just wasn't too interested. He survived, but with a good part of his lungs taken away. He lived in rural Croatian landscape, where jackals were unchecked for a number of years...
I just say again, people, this is a serious crap thrown at us, it doesn't even matter what politics is behind this any more, because the result is just too damaging...
Canids all over the place = HYDATID DISEASE all over the place. As simple as this. Don't forget how many dogs and todlers will get infected before this population change and adjust their habits to this new condition in the woods...   :dunno: :bash:  >:(

Thank you Sporting_Man, for sharing your story with us, many people do not realize the dangers, and pass it off as, this will never happen to me.  Some even know they have the information and will not share with others, and that my friend really sucks. >:( >:( >:( This wolf situation is about sharing everything and all that you know. Because if you do not than you are not only cheating other folks but you are killing the last of our game herds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And also the people that you talk to every day who spend time in the woods. ;)

See, Wolfbait, I live in urban Seattle area and I try to talk to people about this. Many don't care at first, because they are not hunters (I'm a black sheep)... But then, I remind them that all of them tend to go at least once a year to lake Chelan, Alta Lake, etc. for summer fun camping, and that is where the disease can be. Also, many of them have dogs, what is another connection to that danger (left alone that those puppies might get eaten next summer...).
If they give me 5 minutes, I make my point and then it sticks. For how long - it is another topic. So, I am doing my part, as much as I can. I will not stop. Knowing in person at least 3 people that used to be sick, in a country that has cultural pre-cautions to this problem, talks for itself.
I think that you are doing a tremendeous job bringing this stuff up every time with some fresh aspect that might be overseen. I think that it is about time to think of some legal action against this (wolf intro) campaign, since there is soo much going on against general public...
