Savage Model 99

Hey guys I was surfing Gun broker and thought " I wonder what the old .300 savage is worth?". So I did a little web surfing and it seems that Savage is hiding some information about when their guns were manufactured. So I thought I would ask some people who actually know a thing or two about guns and see what they say. So here is the story of the gun. My great grand dad bought it new and gave it to my grandfather. My grandfather gave it to me and I killed my first deer with it and several other after. Keeping with the internet serial number game the number on the gun is 67780X. Any information you all could give me would be great. No the gun is not for sale. I am looking for a manufacturing date. Both my grand Daddy's would roll over in the grave if I sold it. It has to much value and I want to see one of my boys kill something with it.

Sounds pretty neat. My dad has a 303.savage that we can't seem to find info on either. We found some that was close but his has an octagon barrel and we have yet to find a value on his. He also wouldn't part with it as his grandfather bought it and it has been past down through the generations. I have little hopes of it ever getting to me though because he has a cousin that wants it and my grandpa and his brother had made it clear that it would go to the cousin should dad ever want to let it go.

The 303 sounds like an 1899 B, I have one in 25-35 Win.   

Did a little looking and  the 300 was made after 1950 the guys over at the Campfire will give you the exact year and model if you give them a description.

I think your right. If I remember it said 1899 but it also had a date of 1917. We just never found a value for it but like I stated before- he would never sell it.

I have a 99 in 243. Only killed a yote with it though. I usually hunt deer with my 300 wm. It has been a great target rifle and my wife has toted it around the woods before with no opportunities to shoot anything.

Years ago a guy brought a 99 in 243 into my shop for a new extractor (no longer work on guns commercially).  I took it out to test fire it and it was a shooter for sure, with a little 2x7 scope a 99 in 243 would make a great coyote calling gun, pretty nice deer rifle too.

I had a 250-3000 that was in decent condition. If the stock to reciever doesn't have any cracks, look down the barrel, some have a blemish, I've been told. Is it a takedown model? Does it have the brass counter? I sold the one I had at a gun show in atlanta, GA about 9 yrs ago. I got 700.00 for it. Savage used to have a website that would tell you the mfg. date, mine was built in 1915. I'm by no means an expert, that's only my personal experience with one. The one I had was equipped with the brass counter and a takedown model.
