Need pistol ammo advise
« on: March 13, 2010, 07:55:06 PM »
I just bought a smith and wesson 638 airweight revolver and wondered what someone could recommend for shells for it. It is a 38 just for self protection not for target practice.

 :yeah:

+Ps in 110-125 grs will do the trick.  I also perfer these in my .357 mags for personal/home defense... less recoil and penetration than full-house loads, but will still get the job done.  :twocents:

Various online places have them.  I know sportsman's warehouse/wholesale sports carries them too.

do yourself a favor and do not shoot the cor bon's as your first rounds. you bought an airweight, it is going to have pretty good snap to it.......without shoving +p's through it....pick someting mild to get familiar

 :yeah:

That's great advice.  You'll definitely want to start with standard .38 Special loads and work your way up.

Thanks for the help thats what I will do. I have had a concealed wepons permit for several years but did;nt have any gun to carry. We have had a couple home invasions close by our home and have started locking doors and paying more attention to who is around and why. Thanks

+1 on the shotty for home defense.  The problem with handgun rounds is they will shoot through walls.  If used strictly for home proposes you might want to look into Glaser safety slugs.  They break apart on impact and will not pass through walls.

+2

My personal choice.  There's nothing like the sound of chambering a shell in a pumpgun (an AK is impressive too).
