WElcome aboard doublecut. How are you going to mount up your Lion? I dont know if you saw mine or not , I killed a descent tom in January . I think page 4 topic 35 is where the good pics start.

Nice job on the Lion by the way. I had full intensions of using my bow too, but opted for the ol' trusty 30-30 instead, too many cliffs for me, I just wanted mine dead  :chuckle:

I have an awesome 2 cougar, 1 huge porcupine mount planned -- of course, it is kinda like the plumber whose own toilet leaks, or the mechanic whose own rig doesn't run -- you do the customer's stuff first!  And, I think I will have to build an addition to house the mount!  I was lucky enough to draw the permit 2 years in a row and got a really nice tom (130#) last year.  This year's female will fit right in!

I had the same feeling last year -- it was the first cat I had ever seen (and I worked in the woods for 12 years!) and I was all nervous about it getting away!  Packed my bow all the way in but opted to use my husband's grandfather's 30-30 (that he carried when he was a marshal in California).  The bow definately made things alot more exciting, and helped with my confidence in my bow.  I wouldn't do it any other way, now....

I am still on dial-up, so pics are kinda hard to download.  Hoping that will change this year.

Didn't DH just get Quest high speed for real cheap? We are going to check this week and see if it's available to us now, last time I checked it wasn't available in this area yet.

I will use my bow on the next one . Now that the first is out of the way  ;) I was going to do my Lion taking down a lifesize blacktail buck but I think I will hold off on that one. I think I am going to do a mount that better shows off the cats size and head. Soucy has a mount he did I really like with the Lion in a tree. I think I will go that route this time.

No matter what mount you choose, a cougar in a trophy roomn is usually a prime attention getter... :)

(I always recommend staying away from a cat rug, seems like a waste to do that to such a beautiful animal)

No cat rugs until you have at least 4 or more full body mounted. :chuckle:

That's funny that Doublecut and Bucklucky both packed 30-30s for their cats.  That is the ONLY reason I have held on to my old 30-30.  I've been telling people for 20 years (since I bought my first bolt action .270) that I was keeping it for a "saddle gun" or "if I ever get to cougar hunt with dogs".
Well, I still don't own horses (yet), but maybe one day I'll get to tree a cat.... ;)

I agree bearpaw, cougar mounts are definately a attention getter. I had the first lifesized lion I ever mounted at the puyalup sportsman show 4 years ago, let me tell ya people flocked to it.

Cant beat the ol'30-30. It just feels appropriate when running dogs. Kind of like shooting a buffalo with an old sharpes  ;)

yes, Bearpaw, DH did get DSL through Qwest.  I called yesterday and we can't get it.  Our phone lines won't support it.  Chat with them, they have gotten some weird phone calls since they got it.

How would I go about putting some taxidermy pics on here and are they legal?

Doublecut,
There is a whole taxidermy forum.  After you log on, click on FORUMS and you will see all the subjects (General Discussion, Photography, etc...).  Scroll waaaaayyy down and you will see the taxidermy forum.
Looking forward to seeing some of your work! :)

As long as you aren't advertising with them they are legal. ...or you can go the route of becoming a sponsor (its pretty DANG CHEAP) and then you can post away.  THats the route most have taken.
