Forrest service trail camera found! Guys pissed
« on: March 16, 2010, 12:47:09 AM »
This guy seems to have a real problem with them having a camera in the woods. What do you all think?

I do not know why the forest service was being so coy about the trail camera.  They should have just been honest and told the gentleman that remote areas are used for marijuana grows, and they were just trying to identify the bad guys.  Eastern Washington has a long history of Mexican nationals growing thousands of marijuana plants in our national forest.  It is devastating to the environment.

People need to relax, it is an investigative tool deployed a lot.  Today's criminals are very savvy and law enforcement has to try and stay one step ahead of them.  This usually get miscrued by the public as big brother is watching.

This is going be the same guy that would find your trail camera out there in the woods and take it home too!  Next thing you know we will be all charged with voyarism.  He needs to chill.

I wonder if they are using them to catch up with the Lookout Pack. They better hurry up because the deer are disappearing fast. :chuckle:

The lawyer is concerned about the privacy of using the forrest as a restroom.  :chuckle: What does the law enforcement do with that kind of info- report it to the local paper? :chuckle:

I think you are right.  Even though about 75 percent of the population is just fine with the way that TP works, some of the rest are really struggling and the president is making the rounds and urging America to support this new TP improvement plan.  It is time to produce something America really needs and at last witness in our own hands change we can believe in.

Yeah, leave the cameras.

I just hope the following couldn't / wouldn't ever happen:
There's a grow in a remote area of a National Forest.  Forest Service law enforcement puts some hidden cameras up in the area.  Someone is there legitimately - camping, hiking, hunting, whatever.  The guy gets "caught" on video.  A couple days later he's back home and law enforcement bangs on his door.  When he answers they treat him like a suspect and interrogate him with a ton of questions, forcing him to explain what he was doing there.  If he refuses to answer their questions, they really suspect him, and maybe even take him to their headquarters for further questioning.  Maybe he simply thinks that whet he was doing there is none of their business, and he's right - it isn't.
Why should anyone ever be detained or considered suspicious simply because they were seen on a video camera?
I wouldn't be surprised if more than one innocent person has been subjected to visits by the police and questioning because of video cameras used in this manner.
If they need to use cams to try to catch their bad guys, fine - as long as not one innocent person is ever inconvenienced in any way whatsoever.

Well unfortunately there is alot of vandalism done at trail head parking areas. With people being charged for parking passes the Forest Service is in a round about way responsible to try to curtail the vandalism. Some places have "trail head hosts" but that is usually a volunteer job and there are not as many volunteers out there. So trail head cams might be a substitute or way of the future. :twocents:

Did anyone else find it ironic that the trail cam was placed next to Lake Moultrie?  :)
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

They are starting to place these remote ones that can be accessed by GPS / satalite at many gatted locations.  In order to catch those sneaking into areas.  It should be interesting in the years to come.

They've had them at closed road gates for years in Montana.  I knew a guy years ago (hell back in the early 90's) that had a habit of hooking a chain to the locks on those gates and getting the road open. :bdid:  He eneded up getting caught doing this by one of these camera's.  I feel they are a good thing personally.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
