GPS sugestion
« on: March 16, 2010, 05:58:20 PM »
I just saw Cabelas is selling the 60CSX for $200.  I was debating between this one and the Oregon 400T.  I like the touch screen, but for the price, which is a good buy?  I just use this for hunting mostly.  I need good reception that's all.  Any thought?

I have the Garmin 60csx + 24K map, I am happy with it, but wish I would have shelled out a few more bucks and got the one with the radio...

I bought my 60CSX when it was brand new to the market, dished out a heafty chunk on it and i 100% satisfied with it.
If i were to replace it now though, i would get the Colarode or the Oregon. My buddy has the Colorado and i love the touch screen and the 3D map. the map on it is awsome and is easyier to see the contours.

 on the 60CSX, but i like the map on the others

i went out an bought the oregon 400t because i wanted the best, and it really is alot better than the 60csx. much easier to use for beginner like me, alot of added programs, and just an all round better product. it costs alot more and i think youd be better off with the oregon, but that is a great buy on the 60csx. id go to a store that sells them and check them out, when you compare the two while their both in your hands you'll see what im talking about :twocents:

Thanks all.  Again, I do like the Oregon.  It's just that the 60csx is $300 less on this sale and couldn't decide if I should take the 60csx instead.  Money is kind of tight too.

I've got the 60csx and for 200 that is an awesome deal.  The 60csx has been very dependable and has worked well for me.

When I upgrade from my Garmin Rino 120, I'll go with the Rino530.  Think about what you want a GPS for. Realistically, you're marking camp, or a place you leave the road. Maybe where camp is, and the place someone drops you off so you can head back/hunt back to camp. Most of the time, I'm looping back to where I started from, but once in a while, wanting to go somewhere I've been, but getting there from a different route. Maps with contours can help in those situations. Having a map that shows when/where you're going to intersect a different road/system.. That's cool, but not really necessary. I can tell you that the Rino series is VERY durable, but I can't speak to the 60csx. If the budget is an issue, I'd look at used/CraigsList for something.

Spend a few extra bucks and get a Garmin Rino.  I had the 120 model and two years ago upgraded to the 530hcx. The radio feature sure is nice if u hunt with others that carry them.  Just make sure if u buy the 520 or 530 u get the hcx line.  Last I saw the 520/530 was 370 and change.

Another vote for the 60Csx.  Very satisfied.  Maps can be pricy, but they're very good.  The only thing that I don't like is Garmin's website for finding and downloading updates, etc.  It's very hard to tell what download products are the one's that you need.  Best to call their customer service line.

Well, I got to big "C" around 9:00 on saturday.  Didn't see any on the shelves.  I asked the guy and he said that they have 31 units, and they were gone in less than a minute.

Guess I'm not the only one eyeing on this thing.   :chuckle:
