any chance that it is a 303 british? I assume someone made that in a lever gun at some point.

Either that or it is a different manufacture and just chambered for .308 WCF

Model 1895 was chambered in 303 british......has a detachable mag.....and an exposed hammer.  But according to my gun book, production was stopped in 1931.  So if it is an 1895, it is a lot older than what he thinks and it is not chambered in .308Win.......

I don't think the mag on the 1895 is detachable i believe you have to load from the top of the action. :dunno:

what an exciting dilemma?

Can't wait to find out what at actually is?  It is very similar to a suspense novel, where you can't wait until you get to find out who killed 'em.

Yeah, I think you're right........ I think I stated that incorrectly.

My guess is going to be that he is remembering the exposed hammer incorrectly and it is in fact a Win Model 88.......

Wrong information from the guy...there's no external hammer and it's a model 88.
sorry.
