Machines 2009 baby bear

I spotted this bear in a large clearcut and with a rangefinder he was 374 yards away.After getting comfortale I clicked my turret to 375 yards.With the bears head in the ground I took the shot and he took two big leaps and laid down.Knowing that bears can be hard to kill I fired again as fast as i could.He went tumbling down the hill and was done.The first shot was right behind the shoulder,the second in the head and really wasn't needed.To my surprise he was about 1/3 the size I thought but hes been good eating.

Sometimes hard to judge size on them when they are alone and a ways out!  Nice bear no matter what!

Maybe thats why you shouldn't be shooting animals almost 400 yards away...........

I personally don't see a problem shooting at an animal that is 400 yards away. I would be comfortable shooting that distance, the important thing is that he identified his target before shooting...

I'm sorry but why? he was smaller and good eating not unethical to shoot. so why again should he not take the shot?

375yd shot on a smaller target. Although misjudged for size, and the fact that he posted the outcome here..  'Machine' has shooting skills and balls to take the guff.  

I actually know someone that's shot a smaller bear. While I wouldn't if I knew it was that small, it's a filled tag, and a helluva lot easier to pack out some good meat.

If you look at his other recent post, "Machines 2008 bear", He's got one quite a bit bigger. oh And in the AsHeLays' thread, First deer, grouse and steelhead. I think he's strung a few good hunting seasons together.  Hey... I'll admit it. I've shot a spike buck before!

I shot a bear about that size a few years ago well maybe not that small.  good shooting any bear isa good bear.

My first solo bear at age 13 was that size.  I had no idea that it was that size, and that was at 70 yards.  Course, being my first solo bear, and at that age, I would have taken it none the less.  It takes some time and more than a couple kills to really be able to estimate their weight.

hims just a widdle guy. nice bear though. good looking coat on him and nice shootin. you shoulda tube skinned him and made a hoodie. and i agree. any filled bear tag is a good bear. i shot one in 09 that was about 225. he was huge as far as im concerned, until a guy pulled into the meat locker with what must have been a 600 pounder. it was a monster bear, took up the whole bed of his truck. congrats. those long shots are fun. did you see the vapor trail.
