My first bear...rugged out.
« on: February 07, 2008, 11:48:25 AM »
I got my first bear rug back from the taxidermist last deer season and I was bored, so I thought I would post it.

Here is a pic the day of the shot:

And here she is as a rug:

There is a real blonde side to her, under her long fur.

Nice color bear. One thing you might want to consider is that the hair is going to fall towards the head. Is there anyway you could hang at an angle?Who did your rug?

Awesome rug Saylean, how did you hang it and keep it flush with the wall and not gap?

Currently it is over my bed, so the head is basically looking at me while I sleep. I had room mates and I didnt want them F'in it up, so I stashed it in my room. However, it will be going down stairs now, in my living room, at an angle (as suggested) cause I no longer have roomies. ;) I am just waiting on a few other things to happen first. I got a nice "Beware of Bears" painting that looks all rustic with a blackie on it...my living room is gonna look like a cabin by the time Im done....elk sheds, bear rug(s), etc. ;)

Red Dawg Taxidermy in Twisp did it. He has done several of our families mounts. The pics really dont do the hair justice. I nailed it to the wall, with several nails, under the first layer of felt (as was suggested on the boards...cause I wasnt sure how to do it) and it has worked great so far.

I saw your bear over there at Blaines shop. He does nice work and hell of a nice guy.

This first one I got on the second day of general deer modern firearm in the twisp area.

This years bear I got on the last day of September. She had a great coat too..but all black (with some silver hair mixed in). It will be cool to have two bears with the contrasts that they have. ;) Im stoked.

Ya, Blaine is a great guy. Its always great to BS with him when I come over to Twisp. ;)

Going on 18 months for my brother's '06 bear. It took 16 months just to have a hide tanned through this guy.

Thanks for all the grats. And to answer some questions I have been getting...

There is nothing on the nose itself..it just looks bright or powerdy cause of the flash (i was close up.. ;)

There is also a "snarl" added to the nose, hence the two wrinkles at the top of the nose.

I rehung it downstairs last night at an angle...the fur looks better like that...lays more natural. ;)

Ya i might be jumping the gun, he  said 6 months and Its the first time i've used this guy i was the  5 or 6 bear he had gotten in. He stitch's the felt on himself which he said cuts down on the turn over time. we'll see, I'll give him a call at the end of summer if i don't hear from him before.

Was it painless or did they give you a runaround?

Na, it was cool. I called the customer service line, some lady answered...wasnt sure how pleased she was when i said i killed a bear in 06 and i wanted to know the age...but she was polite (her voice seemed off though...just my opinion) and directed me to the correct number. I called, spoke to a "Mike" and he was cool. Very easy and a good experience overall.

Two seasons ago a buddy and I passed on a small bear that had the same blond coloration.  Cool bears, but it was opening day and ours was a little on the small side.

Nice rug!
