The class/certification is for the surrounding area near cities mostly.  It is a 8 hour class and gives you the right to establish two stations.  Not sure of the predator control stuff within area 16 as that started after I left.  As bone and blkbearlr posted, Do Not mess with AK enforcement for sure...  They do and will go to stations, as I used to go with my AST bud while he checked out stations of hunters for things like fish in areas that it isn't allowed, permanent ladder and stands, etc...  We had to give grid coordinates in the later years of baiting when we registered...  Anyhow, good luck to you and here hoping since I can't do it any more than you drop a beast...

Thanks again everyone.  Yeah we are looking at boat rental from MWR to do a spot and stalk out of Whittier into PWS.  Unless we have luck baiting.  I have already been certified.  Went back to look at the map they replaced it.  BOOOO!  Since they Do'nt use the pins anymore just there computer system.

Other than that I am hgoing out scouting tommorrow and we'll see what I decide.  I have found a creek that I believe should be a decent travel corridor.

Cohoho did you put ouyt bait if there was still snow left?  It is melting but plenty around still.

It is fine to put out the bait while snow still on the ground. I would always take and get it out as soon as possible. I read through cohoho's post pretty much the same thing I did when baiting there. Another thing that I would do is soak a cloth in Anise oil for some reason they loved the smell of it and would hang it high. Really got the scent going around in the area. Also would go to Costco and get  gallons of chocolate syrup and mix that in with the dog food.

If you rent a boat from MWR and go out of Whittier there are some good areas there. Be careful of the tides though they can get tricky on you in the low tides. Some of the bays you can slip into during high tide will leave you stranded with the low tide. And one more thing if you shoot a bear and you tie the boat up during high tide make sure you give it plenty of slack rope for the low tide, we shot a bear out there one time, tied boat up came back to it about 4 hours later and it was half out of the water because we only used a 10 foot rope. Be careful, know the rules and have fun. \
