When you register just tell them you read about it on here and have them get Ren,  it'll be nice to meet you.  Off to go start setting up the course here in a bit!

Great pictures! That looks like a great shoot. We had our Safari shoot over the weekend too at Lewis and Clark Bowman. We were down about 45% . Don't know if the club will survuve the recession...our rent on the  D&R land is 2600.00 a year.  :yike:
You have a beautiful range up there.  Fun to see the kids shooting too! :chuckle:

Yeah both L&C and Whidbey had to compete against the first leg of the IBO in Spokane.

I heard that the safari was very challenging.  You had some of the best safari shooters on the west coast competing there and they had nothing but praise for the shoot.  Oh yeah Cory was there too.  :P

I think that if we can get more clubs to attend the WSAA convention in October every year and work together attendance will go up for every one.  The problem is that there are 5 or six shoots every weekend.  In these times it's hard for people to travel EVERY weekend to go to 3-D's or any other type of shoot.  And with this every weekend attendance will wither.  Maybe more clubs should host one dayers.  Saturday shoots only.  Attendance is always higher on Saturday, plus that leaves sundays open for them.  We also need to bring some more of those 30,000 bowhunter tags into the sport of tournament archery.  Maybe then they will get proficient with their equipment and have better luck. Just some ideas guys.

70 shooters on Saturday,  just under that on Sunday.  Tough to compete against the IBO shoot in Spokane.  We had a blast and the weather cooperated.   :P  Thanks to everyone who showed up,  and hope the campers enjoyed!

A safari is a marked yardage shoot.  It can either be paper targets with animals on them or actual 3-D targets.  There is an orange dot on them.  Size of the dot is determined from the distances.  Two arrows are shot.  Scoring is 11 for the dot, a 10 ring then the rest of the animal is an 8.  Best score per animal is 22.  Distances are anywhere from 4- 101 yards.  A typical 2 day safari will be 42 animals on Saturday and 28 on Sunday.  The Redding Trail shoot the first weekend in May is the biggest Safari tournament around and there are typically 1300-1500 shooters every year.

Generally they are shot gun start.  But don't let that scare you off.  They are a lot of fun.  Just like 3-D but the yardage is marked and there is an aiming dot.  Step up and shoot 2 arrows.  It really is fun.
