Flethching question
« on: March 27, 2010, 07:44:40 PM »
I'm shooting a 27.5 inch Switchback with 28.25 inch Beman ICS Camo Hunter 400's. The arrows weigh 425 grains and the bow is set at 67lbs. It chrono'd at 257 with my Maximas that weigh 410 grains. I fletched the Beman's with Blazer vanes using a right helical jig. I really like the way they fly but they spin alot more than the straight factory fletch's on my Maximas. Will that much spin slow the arrows down much? Since the Switchback is a slower bow should I stick with the straigh/offset fletches?

very little, they should fly great with broadheads on. i heard that you may lose 2-3ft on the chrono.

not enough to bat a eye at i switched to 4 90s with blazer vanes now vane tec hp "same size and shape" and nothing to much changed and i have them setup with a big offset as well more than most use. i use a j8 by martin and it is set at the max offset right now and they fly so true and stablize my arrow out of my xforce at 340-350fps very well and i shoot a 125g broadhead montec most of the time

Do a simple test. I would be interested to see the results. Take one of your maximas and fletch it with a helical to it, then take your bow to the range and shoot an arrow with straight and an arrow with helical fletch at 80 yards so you can see if one of them is dropping. I bet it wouldnt be much, if any loss at all. The only thing I dont like about helical with the blazers is that they spin so much they rotate my nock when the arrows hit the target. ;D .  I dont think the few fps you would gain would be a benefit, espically since they say helical is supposed to make your arrow more accurate. I've seen ya shoot at i'd let you shoot an apple off my head at 20 ;) .
