How many Tracks in those area Is it only ONE single track?. Did you spend hiking around with in appox 300 to 500 yds circle to make sure its alone or more than 3 or 5 different tracks.  :dunno:

If I were you, I would follow the track.... Till you see what it is!  :chuckle:

There are only two wolf packs in the state of Washington, the rest are just big coyotes and deer chasing dogs. Take Aim; FIRE :mgun: :mgun: :mgun: :mgun2: :mgun2: :peep: WDFandwolves

I seen a pic of the wolf that was at hunters campground.    I heard rumors he died of lead poisoning.

3.5"X4" is pretty small for a mature wolf... Were you in an area near houses or somewhere a dog could have been running?

There are probably some wolves moving through that country, but I'm not sure about the track you found?

I looked again and still think ~4 seems about right.  i'm not counting the claws or what kinda looks like a slide in the back.  Just going from toes to back of pad.  3.5"x6" would be an unusual shape.

that sounds about right. it's a little small for a mature wolf, but could be a sub adult.  I suppose it's possible that it's a subadult that has decided to disperse.

I found this description and drawing on the Wisconsin DNR site: http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/er/mammals/wolf/identification.htm#tracks

Based on this description I'd have to go with wolf, knowing that homes are not near bye etc.

"It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor even the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change."
