Used Rifles
« on: April 04, 2010, 11:20:04 AM »
How does one with an untrained eye check the crown of the muzzle for damage ? What are we looking for ? And bluing ? How can you tell if it's the real deal and not a touch up hack job that somebody did just to pawn it off on guys like me ?
Can't we all just get along?

elksnout,  for crowns you are looking for dings, rough edges etc.  A Q tip works wonders for finding these.  Just run it around the muzzle, on the edge, and if it pulls cotton from the Q tip, there is a burr.   Just make sure it is not getting the rifling.

Touch up bluing will just look different, than the original blue job.  Slightly off color, patchy.  It will just look different, simply because the two kinds of bluing do not blend together well.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

crowns are a simple fix if they are hacked and most factory guns will benefit from a good job. bluing is one of those things that just takes a little time to spot....or some vinegar

I bought a rifle from a man and he used a sharpie to fix the bluing,i asked him where he learned that,he replied i told him how, oil on the bluing makes it blend in.
